🐙Cut your energy bills nearly in half with Octopus Tracker

Yeah literally the day you join them just tweet them and they'll take it from there or you can use the web site if you google join octopus tracker (log in first)

I'm switched!

So today I need to tweet them, and just ask to be moved onto the tracker? Is that the right language?

Yes. They’ll probably say you need to wait until they confirm they are getting half hourly readings from your meters, at that point ask them to backdate tariff to today.

Log into Octopus account online as well and ensure your meter read settings are set to half hourly.

I'm getting this, altho I'm sure they are getting readings already - will give them a bit of time to sort it and try again

They probably are, takes a little while for everything to flush through sometimes, like Sherlock says contacting them on Twitter is the best route because then you've got a paper trail and can get it backdated whereas with a form it's doable but not ideal.

If you've done that then they normally get back to you pretty quickly, follow up if no reply in 48 hours

I've been notified by Octopus I'm being sent a mini.
Any tips on setup to get the best out of it when it arrives?
Just plug it in and set it up, I've got mine tucked away. It's really small.

Octopus official all supports it, as does Octo aid

The mini basically just gives you near real time access to live usage a bit like your in home display does - it only shows elec as gas meter only wakes up every 30 minutes. But useful as most people on tracker don't use the display because the prices aren't accurate

They're not life changing or anything mind, but it's free and a useful little device to have. Not aware of any other supplier that does a similar device either.

Someone on here did say it sends readings to octopus as well, which octopus confirmed, but when my gas meter drops off every 2-3 weeks I've still got to tweet them to resend the flows else I don't see the data so if it does, it doesn't send gas info 😂

I'm not even sure what mine does, I have a socket by my meters, so plugged it in and followed the instructions. I've had mine over a month or so, what dos it do and where do I get the readings from?

It updates the data every 10 seconds and the use cases will be many and varied but for you now it'll be knowing how much impact each device you use has on your overall consumption

Go into octopus app and select add device and follow then instructions, of you've done that already the should have an extra section in the octopus app showing live usage for electricity (elec meter is always on as it is powered, gas meter wakes up every 30 mins to send readings to the network and then goes back into sleep mode so you'll never get live gas)

3rd party apps can access it too - for example octoaid will show you the largest and lowest live demand figures of the day, what you are using right now in W/p, what you were using a week ago today & a graph of the last hour's usage.

It basically replaces what you would use the in home display for where you can switch it to current usage, because the smart home display will always be wrong with tracker as it doesn't get daily tariff updates

Also the in home displays have very small batteries so not great to carry round the house to check what stuff uses; so you can use the app to turn stuff off and on if you don't have power measuring plugs

Remember if you want a mini you need to sign up for one proactively, they don't just send them out

Link is in first post

Doesn't cost you anything so might as well
