šŸ™Cut your energy bills nearly in half with Octopus Tracker

Tiny in context though!

I just set up the alerts and leave it at that. If it does spike I'm confident it'll return down and the savings have been so significant that you've got to roll with the rough if it does happen

Agreed, it's like a waiting game for it to get to the cap over winter... The very best time to sign up was when you made this thread so kudos.

Side note do you know what the rates were for a fix in 2019 for context?

I'm not even hugely worried about the cap in winter. The spike prices last year were when Russia were threatening supplies and it was all kicking off in Ukraine. The highest rate in the last 12 months was a year ago tomorrow @ 14.2p it then dropped down to 1.9p in October before climbing again. It spent a month 26th Nov to 21 dec of about 9/10p a unit before dropping again -late December onwards it's been consistently cheap - similar pattern for elec.

I'd expect there to be a period where prices spike especially in a cold spell but if it follows a similar pattern it would be well worth just riding it through as most of cold winter in Jan / Feb was below price cap and obviously all the warmer months were

Morning - I have switched across over the last couple of days and used your referral link @ThatFragranceGuy - I have tried to read through the entire thread but maybe a couple of things - did anyone ever find an Android version for alerts or is that still on IOS thing only?

There is an app called Octo watch for tracking data and prices but it costs about Ā£2

For alerts you can use discord, if you google will be instructions

Or telegram : https://t.me/+5zuBZJvLWvw5M2E0

I used to work in energy sector and the amount of people who rack up massive debts because they have no idea what they're using is unreal. People with quarterly bills as well...

People should see what they spend daily. It's akin to just checking your bank balance once a month whilst spending daily.

I've just had new meters fitted on Friday.
Could somebody please explain what the mini is and what benefits it has?
Thanks

If you're in the tracker the lcd device they fit won't be accurate for Ā£/p usage, only kWh usage as it doesn't get daily price updates.

It can also be used for live usage but it makes it a bit pointless
the live is a small half a credit card sized device that you plug in usb somewhere and it connects to your meter and will beam usage stats to your octopus account.

This is useful as apps already show you your daily usage etc but this adds live elec usage (you never get live gas as the gas meter is in a battery and wakes up every 30 mins to send updates figures), so if you want live usage data in your apps it's great. And it's free. Apparently it also sends live readings to octopus so if your meter drops off they still get the readings but have my doubts about that less they'd give them to people who's meter's stop commissioning and they don't

Elec is 57.03 standing charge
26.57kwh

Gas is 29.11 standing charge
6.81kwh

Is it still worth doing?
Yes. So today gas is 4.2p, your units for that will probably be 8-12000 so you're looking at big savings there

Elec today 14.7p but usually 17-19p so another big chunk there

If you have your last 12 months units used per fuel I can tell you the cost difference

Tracker CAN go up but it's wholesale and price so is expected to fall slightly so wholesale should too. But you can come off it with 9 days notice so you don't really have anything to lose

So it says estimated annual usage 4004keh elec and 15868kwh gas?
