šŸ™Cut your energy bills nearly in half with Octopus Tracker

octopus will suggest a dd amount based on your usage; remember this will be based on their standard tariff so may sound high initially

Once you join them you can adjust your DD shortly after, we've got ours set to Ā£100 over summer

If you end up in credit you can request a refund via the app, it takes about a week and a half.
Yup, mine was about Ā£350, but my bills are now more like Ā£100, I'm way in credit now.

I've been paying Ā£233 per month (was Ā£300 until the government support) after coming off Ā£154 per month fixed in March 2022. I am just over Ā£1,000 in credit despite drawing Ā£1,000 a few weeks ago. Great tariff and owe a huge thanks to @ThatFragranceGuy as many on this thread do.
You can adjust your DD in the app if you're still building up a big credit balance! Some is good for winter uplift but I'd not keep a crazy amount in there.

That's why I took Ā£1,000 out. I don't mind keeping the balance broadly where it is as in winter my wife has the heating on almost constantly so it's a good buffer.

Great thread though and one that's helped many, many people save a small fortune at a time its most needed.

yes, thanks for the comprehensive info. now I'm in a whole new world of something else to worry about, checking rates 17 times daily on my phone for no logical reason, studying graphs as if I understand them. its like the utility company version of var, something that used to be so simple..... and now its stress all round!

Tbh I wouldn't worry about daily rates, I have alerts set up on my phone to see them if you have iOS that's quite easy to do, but I don't stress over them going up or down too much as it is what it is. Some of the graphs can be useful though for example Octo-aid can forecast your monthly and annual usage and stuff like that

Me too. Just got on the Tracker this morning. Downloaded a site that gives the next day and historical data so already smiling at the lower rate and may I add, the lower standing charge for both Gas and Electricity. Thanks ThatFragranceGuy(y)

I don't use it so not mega up on it but Octo watch shows daily use and % saved vs cap for elec. for notifications there are discord & telegram channels

Just used the link to sign up, initially it's on the "flexible" tariff, however will be eagerly trying to switch to the "tracker" asap - it seems too good to be true!
Thanks Mark for the sign up credit bonus, enjoy your credit too.

The day you go live with them get onto them on twitter
my eon tariff ends in 3 weeks.

its currently
21p kwh, 40p per day for elec
4.3p kwh, 39p per day for gas

been quoted Ā£6 more per month with octopus as I'm currently paying (although I will owe eon about Ā£150 as I'm in debit)

i will need gen 2 smart meters fitting. is it worth switching now (to get on tracker sooner and get smart meters fitted) or when my tariff ends as its currently cheaper than price cap.

anyone know current wait time to be put on the tracker?

Cheers

That's a really good deal. I doubt you'd get anywhere close to that now.

Todays tracker price is 18.72 for electric + standing charge and 4.55 for Gas + standing charge.

Wait time is nearly instant once you get smart meters, they usually backdate it to the date you request it even if it takes a week to sort out but you can only request once you are a customer and have smart meters

I'd say switch now, you might have to wait 2-3 weeks, you might pay a bit more on svr looking at your unit rates but either way you're going to have that wait period for smart meter install.part of that time will be eaten up by the switching process anyways.

You won't have huge savings because you're close to what the tracker is now but you're fending off thre price cap basically increasing your payments

The 2-3 weeks is for smart install btw. so they'll give you a switch date when you join; You can opt to ask for a smart meter as part of the switch but on the go live date I'd both fill in the form AND tweet them asking for an install

Then soon as you have a smart meter, 1) request an octopus mini via the form (google it) and 2) request to join the tracker

Octopus Energy just done a deal to take Shell's 2 million customers making Octopus the second biggest energy supplier in UK after British Gas.
