šŸ™Cut your energy bills nearly in half with Octopus Tracker

Those cra**ing themselves every time the tracker goes up a bit would not do well in the stock market.
Long term you will do well, but if you get freaked out by short term volatility then it's not for you.

Don't think anyone is crapping themselves kid.

I do do very very well in the stock market though šŸ‘Œ

Yep, some expensive electricity for @Andy_W today during peak hours šŸ‘€

Seen a few articles saying the Australian stuff is already priced in but hopefully it gets called off anyways
The other half has had a warning

Yeah, heard it's to do with Aussie LNG strikes, they don't supply here, but when they cut off supply to Asia they steel some from Qatar which jacks up our price.

I can handle risk from Aussie strikes messing with prices, it's likely short-lived. As long as the ROW can just work with what they have without Russia then prices should come back down.

Have I joined at the wrong time? šŸ‘€
Nah, my interpretation is it's a time-in-the-market thing, not timing the market. Prices just got spooked but prices for tomorrow are already lower, and then we're into the weekend where it will likely be cheaper still. Already talk of the strikes being called off etc.

Prices are similar to middle of June (and only 10% more than 2018), they were probably just concerned they would rocket up, but we're a million miles from the problems caused by the war.

If prices go daft the cap will just adjust, or something will get changed and it will be fine, and cheaper than just living permanently on the cap, or fixing above it.

I signed up on the 18th August and asked straightaway to be moved to the tracker. They have came back saying

You can sign up for the tracker using the link below. Do bear in mind there is a waiting list at present. We will reach out when applications open up again.

Anyone else had this reply

Have you tried switching via their website? There is a page you can do it on but you have to be logged in I think. When there was a waiting list that page said so but it doesn't say anything like that now

I emailed them today, and they switched me over within an hour

I received an email saying that they were taking a direct debit payment of Ā£208 on 1st September even though my account balance is 0

Energy firms usually operate a month in advance, so presume you are a new joiner? You can adjust the DD down by contacting them if you feel your usage will be a lot less. We pay about Ā£100

I have an EV and a Mrs who works from home as a childminder (cooker, washer & dryer on all day) so Iā€™m a very heavy user.

That said, I went white when I noticed how much it was costing each month before I moved over!
I presume it was a dd amount rather than actual usage and you were building up some credit? As tracker would save you about 40% tops around this time so you'll get good savings but shouldn't be that good; that's the problem with going by monthly payment though, it distorts it in winter / summer .

This is what put the frighteners up me.

The months before were half this (which was just less than my dd and meant I was over a grand in credit). May June July wiped out a chunk of that credit but now Iā€™m on the tracker Iā€™ve been able to reduce my dd to about Ā£200 a month which Iā€™m ok with.

Do you / can you pay a set direct debit amount each month?
octopus will suggest a dd amount based on your usage; remember this will be based on their standard tariff so may sound high initially

Once you join them you can adjust your DD shortly after, we've got ours set to Ā£100 over summer

If you end up in credit you can request a refund via the app, it takes about a week and a half.
