the jury is out on them tbh. They've got some vague terms about if they don't make enough profit out of you and you leave they reserve the right to claw costs back, lot of people been having issues with them and don't get anywhere near as much data off them. Also they've got an acceptable use policy so above that it apparently costs moreAny thoughts on Tomato energy? They seem cheaperā¦
Yeah I'll be keeping an eye on it for sure, for now though the talks of 2 weeks+ to get switched to time of use tariff and issues with gmt/bst etc put me off; also sustainability as they're quite a small company and while that in itself is no bad thing, being really cheap could be. Will see how it pans out!The Tomato product seems a bit more user friendly for most people in terms of fixed cheap periods (5p between midnight and 6am) and slightly lower daily standing charge
I've seen some conversations on reddit with some people being really happy and others not so sure there's enough info to judge them.
The offer before looks good though and I'll be looking at this closely

I'm going to create a custom tarrif later, on octopus compare to see how this would hold up versus our usage on tracker.
I'll be keeping my gas with octopus anyway, I really like them as a company and use the benefits regularly too. The coffee alone saves 16 quid a month
I agree in principle but it wouldn't necessarily be better as a single entity, it would be ran by a company like capita and have tons of inefficiencies and no real drive to lower prices. Be great for me though as I'd be straight in there contractingI wish we had a single nationalised company offering simple, best value choices for all. The current system is very unfair for the millions who can't be arsed and/or dont have the know how to play the "market". I despise it.
Where are you getting that information?Renewables are pushing up the price not dragging it down. Average cfd price for wind is over Ā£150 per mwh not including back up and increased grid costs. Ccgt gas generated electricity is around Ā£60-Ā£80.
people have behave moving to fixes constantly throughout this crisis. It's down ti your own risk acceptance really, personally I'd rather do agile and have access to cheap slots. The only other attractive option to me is tomato but will they be here in a few months time or will standing charges be going up to pay for themWhat's everyone's thoughts on sticking with the octopus tracker now? Seeing a lot online about moving to a fixed?
Agile is honestly not any work at all, my girlfriend hates techie stuff and it took her about 2 days to get used to checking the cheapest slots, you know how long the dishwasher takes, the washer, the dryer, and charging the car the charger knows the agile slots as wellI am on the tracker and it's no longer at the point where there isn't a saving by shifting my EV charging. I can go for Go and have basically the same prices and then EV cheaper overnight or agile. Not sure if I can be bothered with having to think about things so much to make agile worthwhile (and the inevitable annoyance when the wife charges the car at peak times).
This is why the Tomato option looks really attractive. My charger is a pain to automate so having a fixed time for cheap energy will help me.I am on the tracker and it's no longer at the point where there isn't a saving by shifting my EV charging. I've just plugged in their time of use tariff into octopus compare, it's not a bad price but agile has an edge on it. Against tracker it's probably a good price but seen a lot of people having issues with bst vs gmt charging (makes a big diffence when unit rate changes so heavily and you're charging batteries and EVS I guess) and a few other things. Hopefully they can stick around as competition is good. This is why the Tomato option looks really attractive. My charger is a pain to automate so having a fixed time for cheap energy will help me.
I think I'm going to pull the trigger on it but going to wait a couple of weeks to see if those who've joined have any issues
I agree but having the fixed periods which last six hours per night will make life loads easier for me and allow easier load shifting.I've just plugged in their time of use tariff into octopus compare, it's not a bad price but agile has an edge on it. I've signed up to Agile. On current use it is cheaper than Tracker and it's about the same as Go. With some load shifting, even if just the car, it should be much cheaper.Agile is honestly not any work at all, my girlfriend hates techie stuff and it took her about 2 days to get used to checking the cheapest slots, you know how long the dishwasher takes, the washer, the dryer, and charging the car the charger knows the agile slots as well
Most normal use we haven't shifted at all, if either of you work from home you benefit from early morning / afternoon rate and can use day/night cheap charging, it's only the 5-7ish period you want to avoid charging the car really.
Gf does 3 night shifts a month so we usually have to do daytime charges on those, the rest end up fairly cheap. I like the sound of go but usage the rest of the time is expensive
Tracker still seems consistently cheaper than price cap or any of the fixed deals so Iām going to stay on thatWithout an EV what's the better option, currently on Feb 24 tracker.
Is it worth moving to anything else?
We won't be changing our lifestyle habits though......
the app octopus compare has upcoming rates which come out at 4pm up to the end of the following day. You can swipe right for the cheapest 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 or 6 hour slots and it'll give you average unit rate for that length of timeI've signed up to Agile. Are there any resources/guides to get the most out of agile without having to check things manually? I have a PodPoint charger for my car. Not sure if it's smart enough to get the most out of agile.
