šŸ™Cut your energy bills nearly in half with Octopus Tracker

As you know, I'm with Tomato and have had zero issues since I joined in November. I'm guessing that I've saved about £175-200 since then since moving from Octopus.

That said, I find it very hard to believe that they've voluntarily stopped taking on new customers out of the goodness of their hearts. I rather suspect this has been forced on them.

I feel bad for the many people who seem to be stuck in the crossover as they don't even know who their supplier is.

Hopefully it gets sorted anyway. I heard some interesting talk the other day that because they bill for the exact usage only, that if they were to go pop, it's unlikely to affect the standing charges in the same way as Bulb etc going bust did.

Hopefully it doesn't come to that but if so, I'll just shift to another TOU. Perhaps the EON one

Another comment I've heard is because they've not billed many people yet, the amount you've "used" isn't eligible for ofgem protection should another supplier need to come in, I'll have to look into how true that is. The tariff certainly isn't protected, so the risk is you end up stuck on a price cap tariff with an EV for a few months in limbo as you can't switch once they do collapse so you'd have to get in there before they did.

Additionally seen some stuff lately about how tomato has been making a separate company house entity and transferred all their customers to it, and the only customer of that ltd co is the old company, which is a bit sus but I guess we'll see.

I remember outfox the market being banned from taking on new customers by ofgem, and ofgem haven't stepped in and done that

If you look at their history, they've got a lot of previous companies. Definitely something a bit 'unorthodox'.

I was initially a bit concerned about the risk of me not having been billed for months and me being liable for full price kwh prices used rather than those at TOU. However, they finally took out my payments a few weeks back, so I've been billed and paid at the cheaper rates.

Something to possibly consider if you've not been billed yet.

I remember the risks associated with Outfox a few years ago. They have landed absolutely fine and hopefully Tomato will too.

Oh and lately Saturdays and Sundays with the car plugged in is mostly off peak rate right up to 5pm. If you keep checking, you can do most of your heavy lifting during the 7p kwh rate, which is excellent.

Is that the tracker that has been lower?
So basically if you use this website;

You can select gas / elec and compare last 7, 30 etc days and see where tracker compares to svt rate in your region

Useful for comparing to whatever fixes or other tariffs are on the table

Remember to look at April 1st prices for any tariff too, as price cap goes up then and so will many other tariffs that aren't fixed but tracker will be already priced in
