The Jubilee

I'm fortunate to live on a street where probably 90% don't care and I'd estimate around 50% actively oppose.

A cursory glance at the agenda reveals there are no plans to reignite the Pete Doherty/Elton John duet from Live8 so there's literally nothing in it for me anyway ;)

Personally I am looking forward to it. I love the Britishness of it all and it's a celebration of our culture and history too.

Being proud to be British and a supporter of the monarchy does not make you a bad person without values or a heart, contrary to what many posters on here believe.

Indeed. It usually makes one the opposite. Which is why it’s hilarious to watch the loony studo left on here whip themselves up into swivel eyed frenzy over it.

They’ll need new dentures after all the teeth-grinding next week :D

When you support monarchy you support unelected scum-bag fascists like this 'Lord Wharton' character who wants to strip any rights and freedoms that have been won by others on your behalf over the last century and a half.

Haven't you heard. You aren't allowed to be proud to be British anymore. Especially if you are white, middle aged, have a wife and two kids and a steady job.

My kids are celebrating the jubilee at school today with a non uniform day, encouraged to dress in white, blue or red or a mix of all three.
The village is holding two events next weekend, Saturday is a mini summer fete and Sunday people are invited to bring a picnic or sample food from a multitude of different businesses (including the one I work for) whilst catching up with friends and family.

I'm retired but i think the country is a disgrace. You don't have to be working or white or have kids to believe that.

Don't call me Sir, I have worked all my life for a living. Probably the best retort I can give to someone who would prefer to live in Russia or North Korea under their type of regime. I take it with your idealism that we shall we cull the homeless because they don't give anything to society. Think your statement out and provide a reasonable option, is it half term already, time for homework son.
Why reach for the extremes Russia and North Korea, are they the only examples of a republic you could think of?

We are having a garden party next week to celebrate.

The wife has invited a lot of the pensioners who are in their late 80’s early 90’s for afternoon tea and drinks. A lot of these don’t get across their doorstep and it will be good to get them together.

They have all been good to us over the years and are good friends and neighbours. It will be lovely to pay them back in some way.

So I will be decorating the house and garden with bunting and Union Jacks, fill the fridges up with wine and beer, and will be raising a glass to one of our greatest monarchs.

I am sure they will be plenty joining me in toasting her health.
That's a great gesture Norman, shows that there's still a sense of community and it'll hopefully not degenerate into No 10 levels of debauchery given the age of those attending 😁
I'm no royalist myself, but I won't begrudge anyone celebrating what is a pretty big milestone.

How does being a republican mean "I'd rather live in North Korea"? That's a bit of an extremist leap

Really looking forward to the weekend, we're having a street party, though we actually live on a road πŸ˜‰
My wife is on the committee of 4 woman who, together have over many hours, knocked ondoors, in our road, organised games, bought flags, banners, my wife has made a 3 tier cake with the crown on the top & the queens guards of honours littered around the cake, fantastic dedication from her, made buntibs, party bags for the kids

Not a royalist at all but happy to celebrate what the day stands for

We have been given money towards the day, which anyone could have applied for through your council ward, hopefully our councillor will call in on the day with the evening gazette reporters who will be taking photos of many partied throughout the region

I am slightly worried about how this could go, my dad, who is 86, is an ex-Royal Marine and his mate who is attending was a Green Howard who saw active service in Korea. Two other men attending will have completed their National Service in various other regiments. I have a feeling we might be on parade next Saturday and tin hats at the ready. ;)

I would also say I am not really a Royalist but I am a proud Englishman of Caribean ancestry.

Best wishes to all those that are holding events.
