The Jubilee

Safe to say nothing is happening around me. My mate text me asking if my estate was having a Jubilee party.

I won't write my response. He then told me to stop moaning and that 'ill be happy to take the extra 2 days off'

I won't. I'm working both (not through choice) and frankly hardly know anyone who's got it off. It's a nice gesture. Yet nearly everyone I know is working.

Apparently it's costing the best part of 1.3 billion. I'm pretty sure that could be better spent than having a 'party'. Throw it at a few food banks/kids meals/homeless.

With that kind of response you strike me as the kind of bloke who would spit on someone in the gutter

Enjoy your Jubilee cake sir
Don't call me Sir, I have worked all my life for a living. Probably the best retort I can give to someone who would prefer to live in Russia or North Korea under their type of regime. I take it with your idealism that we shall we cull the homeless because they don't give anything to society. Think your statement out and provide a reasonable option, is it half term already, time for homework son.

I would ideally do nothing (given the Mrs has vetoed my idea of putting a big poster of Prince Andrew with the word "nonce" across it in the window).

Unfortunately my village is making a big effort and there'll be some rides and stuff on the playing field so will probably end up taking the kids for that (and hating myself a little bit).

Why mention Russia and North Korea and have you by any chance noticed the erosion of democracy in the UK over the last 40 years?

The Jubilee celebrations mean little to me ( as now Retired the extra holiday is no compensation) and will certainly not be looking for a nearby street party. I have admiration for the dedication that the current Monarch has put into her “job” , but would be quite happy if she was the last Monarch of this country when I consider who would be next in line.
If other get pleasure over celebrating her Platinum Jubilee then I am happy for them, and would not criticise them for it, so long as they don’t block off too many roads.

I'll have to grit my teeth through a couple of events i have to take the kids to. I'll enjoy the kids enjoying themselves, hopefully there won't be any exceesive weirdness going on about the queen and the royal family. I'll definitely avoid the BBC for the next week 10 days or so though.

We are having a garden party next week to celebrate.

The wife has invited a lot of the pensioners who are in their late 80’s early 90’s for afternoon tea and drinks. A lot of these don’t get across their doorstep and it will be good to get them together.

They have all been good to us over the years and are good friends and neighbours. It will be lovely to pay them back in some way.

So I will be decorating the house and garden with bunting and Union Jacks, fill the fridges up with wine and beer, and will be raising a glass to one of our greatest monarchs.

I am sure they will be plenty joining me in toasting her health.
