Sheff Utd Forum

I've never really got the big deal about being Champions in 2nd, 3rd or 4th Divisions, for me it's all about getting promoted with winning the title a nice little bonus. At the end of the day, however you spin it we are third favourites to get in the play offs and the conjecture is irrelevant if we don't win.

I know I didn't care one bit about whether we finished 1st or 2nd in 2016, just that we got automatic promotion.

I always remember when we last got promoted at home to a Brighton we got a nice silver trophy for coming second. Burnley won the league at Charlton but they didn’t have the championship trophy there at the Valley. They had to make do with a cardboard cut out trophy. Burnley supporting mate was livid. 😂

Interesting thing about Reading is that they have had 9? points deducted so yes they are in a false position.

The most important issue is that we have to win to have any chance at all and thats not an easy hurdle. Its a similar game as going to Swansea, possibly with a slightly stronger team i.e. Crooks and Fry in.

Sheffield have been inconsistent
Fulham are by far the best team in the league

Luton are in bother.. maybe
Reading are better than their league position

Preston have a solid team
Boro are in the ascendency
Not wanting to be pedantic.... So I agree that Reading did have six points deducted, which means they'd be on 47 points. However, given their goal difference they'd still be 21st, so technically they aren't better than their league position :(

I think winning the playoffs might be financially better than top 2
marginally. It's one home game gate receipts and TV appearance better, which for us would be about 1-1.2mill.

The play off final loser always gets all the gate money from wembley. It's the wooden spoon prize. I mean 3m for one game is great and all, but it's a splash in the ocean compared to the winners 150m

they were hampered by their star striker being crocked most of the season. HE's back so they are scoring again. But Swift is injured, so, swings and roundabouts.

I think they are marginally better than their position, but they're awful at the back, so it's marginal.

I don’t think it’s a case of always gets , I think Gibson arranged with Delia at the time for who ever lost the game to take the days takings . Nit sure if that’s become the norm now

Lets face it - Fulham players would've been out until the early hours (at least) last night and probably the same today....i agree with you Mr C although it makes me uneasy agreeing with you....you know that....

I fear Fulham will go to Sheff Utd with their heads on the beach....I really do....hope i'm wrong....
Of course they had a night out 6 days before their next game, they just won the league. I have no doubt they will get a result in their next game.

It wasn't just us, it had been done for several years before, and I think every year since.

If I was a Luton fan I be more worried about Bournemouth now, looked set for a big sesh after beating Forest on Tuesday. Millwall might sneak it on goal difference if we and Luton fail to win!

Can't remember which thread it was where I said it, so I'll just post here.
More proof that the "typical Boro" thing is just a stock phrase that fans of every Championship will use about their own clubs.

I agree: Sheffield are inconsistent and on a given day look Shiite.
Luton are limping and have loads of injuries and if they make the playoffs will be a busted flush.
They haven’t got anything left in the tank.
Boro are the better team of the three however, we all know we have frailties
Namely, we lack very much a leader on the field- in fact, we lack 3-4 leaders which is what successful teams always have.
We obviously lack the kind of quality or craft up front that’s needed to keep a team in the top six.
If we don’t make it it’s because of these reasons.
If we don’t go up (which is very likely) You could argue this team needs some serious surgery
Ie. At least 2 midfielders with leadership qualities and same at the back as well as at least 2 new forwards.
If we really want to compete at the top end of the championship
