F*CK VAR

I've heard Elleray explain that decision in different ways and he did say it was one of his biggest mistakes.
Watching the replay you can see elleray put his hand to his mouth and then he points at the spot. It looks like he's given a penalty. I can't see any sign of a foul by either side. And I'm not sure if he whistles or not as it's a very quick movement. You certainly can't hear a whistle. Theres a mad scramble then he starts whistling again and the play is stopped. It's all very weird. And I'm not entirely sure the entirety of the ball crossed the line.

You can see him pointing in that photo. But if he whistles earlier why didn't play stop? Didn't they hear? And if he didn't blow the whistle for a foul, why didn't he speak to the linesman? Was he russian?

My best guess is he thinks the Boro player sliding across might have handled it. The whistle to the lips and point is instinctive. There's a scramble and he isn't sure what to give. But having given a red and a penalty against thinks **** it and gives us a free kick.

Its all very strange. There should be a netflix documentary on it.

Fully agree that the whole thing was strange when watched back.

I was sat up in the Gods between the six-yard line and the penalty spot and saw the ref raise his arm before the ball was hit. Mainly because I was asking what the F*** he was blowing for. Obviously watching the game live you don't get a replay and pundit discussion. The furore about the disallowed goal was quite a surprise.

If we are talking about the penalty against Man U and the offside for Coventry then I didn’t see anything wrong with the outcome of both decisions. I thought the Coventry player looked offside in real time, I was surprised how tight it was on the replay.

Correct decision and the exact reason VAR was introduced.
Which one? The three or four at Everton? The two at Wembley today? The Man United lad being punished for having an arm. Judging a marginal offside despite not having access to directly in-line footage. Ashley Young’s trio of penalties. You can pick whichever one you want.

You don’t need direct in line footage to judge offside wih var. it’s accurate and fair to all, the Coventry 4th “goal” was corrected by var stopping a rule breach by the player giving an undeserved goal/win

Coventry’s fourth was offside. It’s objective. The rules were applied. Same as the penalty too.

I haven’t seen anything from the Everton game so can’t comment.

Of course you need to be in line with it. They weren’t using semi-automated offsides were they? Or were they. Who knows what goes on.

All we know for sure is that there are now far too many games of football being decided off the pitch rather than on it.

Using camera position knowledge and algorithms, var does not require cameras to be in line to accurately draw lines. It can see the pitch dimension, and with a bit of computer aided maths can draw the lines…..a human lino does need to be in line of course and often fails to be, so this is why var is better at offside decisions. Now if they’d grow a pair and automate it we can move on to discussions about how best to use var for penalty and handball decisions which is more open to debate

VAR needs to.f*cl off. Totally ruined an Fa cup special moment. 3-0 down at half time to win4-3 to be over ruled by an overgrown toe nail. How was that a clear an obvious error? That was the reason it was brought in.

Feel..sorry for those 36k Coventry fans that deserved that moment.

VAR has ruined ruined game.

But it was offside regardless by how much and I say that as someone that hates Man Utd. Surely allowing a verifiably offside goal to stand isn’t a good thing regardless how harsh it seems on Coventry.
