Isaiah Jones — stick or flog?

I really dont think there'll be a queue of clubs lining up to buy him. Maybe one of the 3 releagted teams but they'll surely be looking at better players with the parachute payments. We are definitely worse off without him but I think that says more about how poor our squad than how good Jones in personally

There’s some strange logic in the OP. If he’s valued at £5m+ with a year left on his contract, then clearly he’s a very good player at this level and we should be trying to keep him.

It’s also the first time I’ve ever heard/seen anyone question giving a contract to a 24 year old as he’s only got 3-4 years left at this level.

It wouldn’t be in the clubs mind to get rid. It would only happen if another club made a big offer, then they have a decision to make.

He gets stick on here but we saw how much he was missed when he was out injured.

I would offer him a new deal, I don’t think he will reach the heights and performances we saw under wilder whilst he’s playing on the right wing but if we could somehow convert him back to a RWB again I think we could see those performances again.

He’s come on leaps and bounds from last season though so let’s get him nailed down to a long contract.

He is very much a confidence player and when not on it he takes the easy option constantly. Yesterday was an example and at times he generally play was sloppy.

I’d very much keep him though. He is capable of being electric, and offers a lot on the defensive side of the game.

Isaiah Jones is massively important to this team. His production is decent if not incredibly flashy but his pace, engine and workrate cannot be underestimated what they add, to me it's no huge coincidence that our form has turned up with him returning to the team.

Whilst he's 25 now, I think you have to still respect that he still only got to this level 3 years ago and whilst he's probably as fully developed physically and technically as he'll be, I think you will still see a maturing and experience adding to his game and he could well peak later than some.

For me, there's an obvious comparison to Albert Adomah's career journey and he joined us at 26. To be fair, he was probably more productive than Isaiah at this stage but had also played more, and for all that he offered going forwards was also similarly underrated for the other qualities he brought to the team (and IMO selling him was a significant loss to that team that contributed to coming straight back down, even with the addition of Adama's raw potential the other way).

He was very poor yesterday and bang average against Sheff Wed. He seems to play differently depending on who is behind him but overall I would keep. Could be a good impact player so therefore a good squad player.
In recent games he seems to have perfected the backward pass or sideways pass, whereas he would invariably take a player on and use his pace to get round the back of defence. Izzy is still a very useful player for us though and I may be a little overcritical in my observation.

I think as a squad they are all suffering a bit from this, maybe from that big dip in form a few weeks back.

We have definitely been playing the safe option more times than not recently, but results have come with that too, so it’s a tricky one to overly criticise 🤷🏻‍♂️

Jones is just back from injury so hes not upto full speed mode he seems to be holding back slightly. His pace and attacking intent will return with games

Adomah used to get plenty of stick on here too, despite being one of the best wingers in the championship.

Jones obviously still has room for improvement, but there does seem to be a thing with unreasonable expectations for wingers from some fans.

Bar the three sides that came down I think every other club in the championship would love to have Jones.

I do think the contract situations are a bit telling.

I know Carrick says they are on the back burner until the summer. Yet make no bones about it these players will have already been offered one if we want them to stay. It clearly isn't getting offered in June.

So I'm slightly surprised that at least one or more of Mcgree / Jones / Forss and Clarke haven't signed a new deal. We don't see to see many contract signing pics these days. Just the young lads signing pro deals.

Think it's clear Mcnair is gone. I wish him well. We've more than had our moneys worth from him.i know he gets a few pelters. Yet I think he's been a great signing. Yet a reputed 30k a week. He's leaving and probably not 'injured'.

The only one who's nailed on to sign is Howson. Just announce a new deal👍😂

I don't honestly believe Jones is PL standard, but we're not in the PL. I don't see a big bid coming in gor him

I think he's good enough to be an effective weapon at this level and he will win us matches.

Wingers always get stuck; id argue crossing is the hardest skill in the game and, even if you're really good at it, you're still dependent on strikers attacking gf ball to make it look good.

I am critical of him but fully agree with this. He will also hopefully learn from senior players around him / manager as sometimes his decision making is poor. Don’t think he is the smartest footballer but if he creates and scores goals who cares 😂

He isn't the same player without Crooks near him and Dijksteel making the runs beyond

He's an excellent addition to the squad, a great outlet and when he's on song he's unplayable. He also does a good job in a defensive role against tricky left sided players. If he had a better final ball he wouldn't be a Boro player, it really lets him down. If anyone can get a blocked attacking crosses per 90 minutes stat id love to see it, must be the highest in the division!

We’ve been goosed without him and we haven’t exactly been being anything like him into the club in recent seasons . Hel be signing a new deal and wel need more than one just like him in the summer
