Houchen loses in court

I can recall that a private security company was contracted by the port authority to deny public access to the S Gare one day p.a. This was to assert that there was no public right of way. They would turn cars around at the crossing.
This is correct. Back in the day when people read the Gazette, they used to close the road one day a year and this was posted in the Public Notices section of the paper.

You'd like to think the net is closing on Houchen. That was a car crash interview, at least the snippets I've seen on Twitter. I wouldn't say Houchen looks broken but he does look ill. I know he and his partner have just had a child so he may be having some sleepness nights. Victoria Derbyshire does her homework and she absolutely schooled him there.

The only thing that surprises me about Ben Houchen is that there are still people willing to defend him and praise the 'job' he's doing.

Both the Airport and Freeport have haemorrhaged millions of pounds of public money, with little transparency and plenty of deals that stand scrutiny, how can you repeatedly disregard employment law and not get punished ?

His much heralded record on employment is another myth that needs closer inspection, when Houchen took over as Mayor in 2017 the TVA employment figures were 76.1% in employment and unemployment across the region was 4%, in February 2024 the employment figures are 73.1% in employment and 4.1% unemployed, the population in Tees Valley has remained at around the 670k mark, so we have fewer people in work and more people unemployed, not really an glowing endorsement or advertisement for his net job creation skills.

Houchen is very ebullient about his role in bringing jobs to the area and equally as vocal in blaming others for the overall downturn in employment the TVA has suffered over the last 7 years, a charmless, grade A shyster and grifter who has harmed the reputation of the area with his actions and dishonesty.

Haha, I love Victoria Derbyshire. Proper nailed him to the wall there.

Wonder how much longer until the national media finally picks up on it though.

Don’t hold your breath. (Edit)
I doubt there’s very little chance of the rest of the Tory supporting press will go anywhere near it. After that mauling, it’s unlikely that Lord Bin will put himself through that anytime soon.
Newsnight in the present format won’t exist for much longer. They’re going to turn into a nice little inconsequential 30min panel chat show.
To think that it used to be a programme that was responsible for what newspapers would write about the following morning. Placemen on the board, changes in the director of news.
All the ‘take no prisoner’ journalist/interviewers who left because they weren’t allowed to do their job. Last night was like a reminder of a once relevant show.
Wonder how long Derbyshire can last. Lord Bin probably on the phone to his mate Gove telling him. “The nasty lady shouted at me”
Hope I am wrong…but.

I must have imagined reading this then

What a foolish decision to go on Newsnight to be interviewed by Derbyshire. He could have declined and made the excuse of being a new parent or some other BS.
Alas, his hubris and self-agrandisement wouldn't let him. He would rather be able to add a line to his linkedIn page: 'has appeared on BBC flagship news and current affairs program'.
