Yes fair enough. It definitely had quite an 'innovative' feel as you don't often get an episode largely (almost exclusively) focused on a romantic, gay relationship in a mainstream TV show. I suspect this is why it has received a lot of the plaudits, which is fair enough, but I just hope it does actually feel at the end of the series like that episode was integral to the storyline as well and not just a novelty factor. It did move the story of Joel and Ellie forward a bit though, we see them making their way from the outskirts of the QZ to Bill's town, where they find the car that will take them to the next city. Ellie gets her hands on a gun in Bill's house, something which kept being alluded to during this episode and the previous that Joel didn't want her to.
We have the scene where Ellie goes into the basement, shows she's not scared to scavenge for stuff and she has the moment where she takes a closer look at the walker/clicker, as well as when Joel tells Ellie about what they think actually caused the outbreak, what happened in the initial days of it with the skeleton pits.
