The Last of Us TV Show

Exactly. I think it’s the sort of statement that just isn’t worth making. Maybe “my favourite hour of TV” would be language I could embrace more, but TV critics often don’t want to put themselves at the same level as everybody else.
I think you’re dwelling on the semantics a bit too much there. The best hour it’ll tv will the hour of tv most people agree on

Nothing to say TLOU is, I’ll reserve judgement until I see it tomorrow

Well maybe I am, but you could easily argue the critics themselves are over analysing it too.

It’s not even rated the best episode of the season tbf

just to point out that you can't look at the ratings for that episode to judge it as not best rated in the season. Looking at user reviews in metacritic and IMDb it's getting reviewbombed for being heavily gay themed

Just watched Ep3. Really enjoyed it but I wouldn't have it anywhere near the best hour of TV ever list. I also preferred last week's episode. I've never played the game so I'm fresh to the story. The series has got off to a great start.

As for Avatar. I think the reasons it did so well at the box office were that the technology was ground breaking. It was visually stunning and something never been done before. You couldn't just watch it at home because people didn't have 3D TVs so if you wanted to see it for yourself then you had to go to the cinema. The film itself was pretty meh. The story was a rehash of loads of others. The acting wasn't great. I don't think it makes many greatest film lists and I don't know many people that have even rewatched it. I saw the 2nd in cinema because there's not much out, someone else wanted someone to go with and I don't have a 3D TV anymore. Again, the visual effects massively outshone the story and acting. If it wasn't a James Cameron film it wouldnt be getting the viewing figures it has.

Must admit, if they are both dead now, I would question whether it needed a full episode if they’re now no longer part of the story. Unless there are more flashbacks etc planned and the 2 characters remain integral.

Thought the most recent episode was really nice, which I wasn't expecting in an post-apocalypse show.

Not sure how much I buy the feasibility of their almost idyllic life for 16 years but I still thought it was a really good hour of television, even with how calm it was.
Yes agree with this too. Surely you’d go a bit nuts with boredom, no matter how in love you were.

the important distinction for me is it completely changed the character arc for hill and frank vs the game. This takes it from direct lift and shift from game to TV, to being its own entity and breathing new life into it.

In the game, bill and franks story is totally different. Joel meets bill (who he already knew) with Ellie and the story unravels that frank has grown to hate bill so has left him, but gets infected and hangs himself rather than turn

It's quite a depressing tale, and I think many expected it to play out in the same way as the game. I'm really pleased that they went in a different direction and came out with that they did.

Nick Offerman as bill was an outstanding casting and he was amazing in that role.

The only thing that concerns me about them veering away from the game is if, as discussed, it goes the way of TWD. If there are opportunities to develop characters etc and make the story even better then so be it.

It's not going to be anything like the walking dead.

The walking dead had 20+ episodes per season and had to inflate storylines to give comics time to progress

Last of us has a defined storyline which won't go beyond 2, perhaps 3 seasons and with a defined ending which naughty dog uniquely enshrined plot elements in the contract to protect the narrative

The games take about 14 hours & 24 hours to okay through on average (without being completionist) and they're unlikely to alter the pace or story in key parts so at the rate it's progressing game 1 is season 1, season 2 has been agreed and will either be all of game 2 or split into 2 parts

Does anyone think there could be a chance that Bill is still alive? Frank asked him if the drugs would ‘be enough’, what if they weren’t, do we actually see him put drugs in the bottle of wine because he doesn’t pour any into his glass?

I just want to see more of Nick Offerman.

I don't think so, myself.
They made a point of showing Bill as quite decrepit and immobile himself, it's not like he killed himself whilst still in his prime. He was an old man caring for his terminally ill partner.
I also think it would probably spoil their intention of showing an almost "happy" ending in the post-apocalypsic world.
The world went under in 2003, when homophobia was far more widespread and gay marriage was illegal in Massachussets, they ended their lives in a happy marriage on an attempt at a perfect day.

It had also been weeks since their death when Joel and Ellie got there, and it doesn't look like a living person left with anything from that house.

As I said earlier, they are adding episodes like Bill and Frank to give backstory to characters that they couldn't do in the game or movie, they devoted an entire episode to it because it's the whole point of making it a TV show.
