Balogan was exciting because he was billed as the best U21 striker around, whereas not many people wanted Connolly.
It will give everyone much more confidence though because we seen he can do it in this league already and is still highly rated at Villa.

Me too, although I'm not sure we've been proven completely clueless just yet! :)

Didn't do it with us but he's looking outstanding in a decent Reims side this year.

He was clearly a better player than Connolly but Wilder dropped him for Connolly half the time, and didn't play him at all in the last 7/8 games.

Neither of those last two points are true.

Balogun started 9 games, Connolly started 13.

Connolly started the first 4 games when he arrived, after arriving weeks before Balogun, who came off the bench in all 4 of those.
After that point they started the same number of games, largely alongside each other.

Balogun played in 5 of the last 8 games, starting 2 of them.

One of my main criticisms of Balogun was the wide left starting position he used to take up. Not sure if that was his preference or coaching but, in a team that had a lot of possession, he often had much to do from out wide.

I'm not saying Connolly is going to have a glittering career.

I'm saying Balogun was never dropped for him, and that he played in the last 8 games.

Balogun was definitely the better player, but there's no need to make things up.
