Walkers, hikers and outdoors types

The problem with 'favourite walks' is that they're everyone else's favourite as well. My favourite walk is any on the NYM which takes me 'far from the madding crowd'. A bit of imagination and some off-pisteing makes it easy to achieve.
Read most Coast to Coast blogs on the net and they'll comment on how boring the NYMs are. As someone once said there's no such thing as a boring hill, just boring people.
The one on Crosby beach amazed me. Wouldn't make my top million.
"We've got a beach same as most coastal areas. I know let's put some rusty tin soldiers on ours to make it different."
There's 1000 walks on the NYM better than that one.

Never be surprised at other peoples preferences. I am sure most who do that walk would never venture across the Pennines.

Well that was a terrific programme. Always love watching it. So inspiring - want to get out and do some of those wonderful trails.

Mentioned on another thread I want to go up Hellvellyn (although not via the ridges), High Cup Nick and also the Cleveland Way on my list as well - the latter I’m contemplating doing over 10 days next year with my son when he finishes uni although lots of work needed to get to that popoint.
If you go up Helvellyn from the Grasmere side take plenty of change. The car park by Thirlmere that we parked in was £7/8 for the day and the machine only took coins.

I know what you mean, but one good thing about the survey was that it threw up a lot of surprises and walks that I would never have known about. There were surprisingly few Scottish walks but I think that's because fewer people have been up to places like Stac Pollaidh than have been to Catbells, Malham, Snowdon and Helvelyn.

Guys, I know you are not supposed to sell stuff on here but I have some excellent new Vango Scaffell 300+ (still in the wrapper) 3 man tents that retail for £179 and only want £100 each for them. Personal message me if interested.

Apologies if I have broken any rules here.

I am surprised ITV didn’t release a book accompanying the programme. Here is the list of the 100

It was a great program. We've done 31 of the 100 but have run out of local ones so we've started the Wainwright ones. We'll definitely do some more though.
Also for those thinking of doing some of these I'd highly recommend an OS map subscription and their app as you can load the routes into the app. (Common sense, checking Met Office forecasts and paper map also advised).

Less than face value so I'm sure it's allowed 😉

For anyone doing Goathland to Grosmont you must stop off at the Birch Hall Inn at Beck Hole for a pint but note it is closed on a Saturday due to issues with Gallon Trail walkers...I was talking to the lovely landlady Glenys last time I was in 👍

Also don't take the Mrs. Did Goathland to Grosmont, had a pint in Grosmont and it started raining. I had to do Grosmont to Goathland by myself to fetch the car.

Yep. They missed a trick there. We did talk about it but, at the time, ITV big wigs didn't think it would be so popular. They honestly thought that Britains Favourite 100 Dogs was better. But then the commissioning editor was asking us things like "Why doesn't Ore hang glide up from Glenridding to meet Julia at the summit of Helvelyn?" So, yeah, a bit stupid. What surprises me more is that Julia didn't cash in on it.

I'm watching it now, loving the scenery & camera work. But... like most of modern tv, the scriptwriting just does my head in. Why is everything like a bloody kids programme, so twee... aaarrggghh

Yes, I agree. I was not involved with the scripts in the edit, which annoyed me. One of my pet peeves is mis-use of the word "iconic" ... and this script was littered with examples of that. But they basically have to tilor the scripts to what they think the average ITV viewer is. And they clearly think that the average ITV viewer is stupid.

Favourite run is the Seven Seven's in the Mourne mountains seven peaks over 700m so not massive mountains but you gain around 8500 ft accumulated so a decent effort beautiful scenery on a clear day
