Walkers, hikers and outdoors types

For anyone doing Goathland to Grosmont you must stop off at the Birch Hall Inn at Beck Hole for a pint but note it is closed on a Saturday due to issues with Gallon Trail walkers...I was talking to the lovely landlady Glenys last time I was in 👍

The road uphill as you come out is a bit naughty after a mid-walk pie and couple of pints!

Went from Kildale up to Tidy Brown Hill today.
Visibility was fantastic. Could see some big hills way way off to the north, I was trying to figure out what they were. Possibly the Cheviots?

Yes if you were looking pretty much due north there is intervisibilty with the Cheviot itself. I've seen it from Burton Howe a bit further south from where you were.

There's a really good channel on YouTube for those interested in the outdoors. They have a motorhome and travel across the UK and Europe, walking and biking.

The episode below links to a stay at Rosedale Abbey with a biking session to Whitby on the one after. Not much walking in the specific episode below but they cycle past Steve Gibsons new house

Jeez that house is a monstrosity.

Certainly not my style either considering he lived in the same street as me in Park End. I've actually explored the ruins of the original house when I lived in Kirkbymoorsde and I've cycled through the ford in a very dry summer. There's a ford in Grosmont that I did chicken out of though.

Think my favourite is Glaisdale to Egton Bridge. Through the woods, by the river, stepping stones and then round the back and up through the woods above Glaisdale before dropping down back to Beggars Bridge.

Also love Great Fryupdale.

Rather than starting a new thread.

I'm driving up to Teesside from the South East in mid Feb for the QPR game. Was thinking of driving up early and stopping over a night on the way, do a scenic walk (under 10 miles) and take the missus out for dinner.

Peak District or Yorkshire Dales would be the obvious choice but does anybody have any suggestions at all?

I've looked at Hawes and Hardraw Force Inc the Creamery, which looks decent

If you have never done the Malham circular (Malham, Woodland gorge, Janet's Foss, Goredale Scar, Malham Tarn, Malham Cove, Malham .... you can make it shorter and miss the Tarn section) then that would be my top recommendation. More bangs per buck than pretty much any other walk I know.

Hawes, Hardraw and Creamery is a gentle stroll really, but pretty and lots of pubs.

There's a cracker near Hebden Bridge in West Yorks. Hardcastle Craggs car park, Up Crimsworth dean to Lumb Falls, Over Shackleton Moor end and back to the top end of Hardcastle Crags, then follow the river back down to the car park via Gibson's Mill ... for coffee, cake etc). That's a lovely walk. I could even guide you round that one.

If you want a nice walk and a night out before the match stay in Richmond. Get the bus to Reeth (it's more of a minibus), have a beer/ coffee/ice cream in Reeth and then walk back to Richmond.

Ps the best thing about this bus is that the route seems to vary depending on who gets on in Richmond and magic bus stops appear outside of people's houses.
It does start in Richmond and go to Reeth though.
