Walkers, hikers and outdoors types

If you have never done the Malham circular (Malham, Woodland gorge, Janet's Foss, Goredale Scar, Malham Tarn, Malham Cove, Malham .... you can make it shorter and miss the Tarn section) then that would be my top recommendation. More bangs per buck than pretty much any other walk I know.

Hawes, Hardraw and Creamery is a gentle stroll really, but pretty and lots of pubs.

There's a cracker near Hebden Bridge in West Yorks. Hardcastle Craggs car park, Up Crimsworth dean to Lumb Falls, Over Shackleton Moor end and back to the top end of Hardcastle Crags, then follow the river back down to the car park via Gibson's Mill ... for coffee, cake etc). That's a lovely walk. I could even guide you round that one.

Thanks BL, I'll give them a look and get back to you. Some great options there.

To my shame I've never done the high/low force walk so that's also an option too.

Went from Kildale up to Tidy Brown Hill today.
Visibility was fantastic. Could see some big hills way way off to the north, I was trying to figure out what they were. Possibly the Cheviots?
I was up on Urra at the same time and remembered I'd taken a photo. The visibility was that good you can even make them out on the photo, which is a bit hazy to say the least. They're 85 miles away.

The profile fits perfectly with Viewfinder Panorama from Urra on the internet. Panorama

Thought this was gonna be a more genteel version of The Cult: Rockers, ravers, lovers, sinners album; maybe in the mould of Mulligan and O’Hare 🤷🏻‍♂️.. Disappointed.

I used to start at the Buck at Buckden over the top to Litton down to Arncliffe and then back over to Starbotton. Used to be 4 decent real ale pubs too.

Also starting at Buckden a stroll upto Buckden pike is now a lot easier but I have seen the Lake District from there !

One of my favourite circuits, though not necessarily in that order. The Queens Arms, Litton is my favourite pub in the world.

Another vote for The Queens Arms. I stay in Littondale each year and always include a visit there.
On the same trip I always nip to the Fountaine Inn, in Linton; another favourite haunt. Honeymooned in Linton, 30ish years ago, literally next door to the pub.
Very busy there now but still worth a visit, particularly on a walk.

"Britain's Favourite 100 Walks" gets its annual New Year outing today. 9.25 am on ITV. It's a great watch. Some stunning photography. Worth recording and watching later in small chunks if two and a half hours is a stretch. Good inspiration for planned walking in 2023.
What's your favourite walk?

Was a cracking watch this. Funnily enough - I did the exact number one route on this day before I saw the show. Easily the best route up Helvellyn if you want to avoid the edges. Makes a nice, but rather big circular if you carry on to Grisedale tarn and come back through the valley.

For anyone thats into the Wainwrights, myself and two other mates do a podcast on them. Three Teesside lads that took up hiking in lockdown and now we're on a mission to finish all 214 and release an episode on each walk. 'The Wainwright Ramblers' if anyone wants to check us out.

We have a few regular lunch spots in upper Wharfedale and the Fountaine is one of them. Timing the visit to get a table in the sun is the key :)

When I was a kid, we used to go to Hawkswick Cote campsite in most school half terms. A brilliant place run by a maverick old farmer with the ultimate dales name: Arnold Fell. There was a games room with table tennis, tv and darts ... always good fun and great for a borolad to meet some west yorkshire lasses. Highlight was the morning milk round, which was delivered by a beat up old landrover pick up, which was always festooned with kids, on the roof, the bonnet, everywhere ... like something from Calcutta. It's a corporate permanent caravan park now. Such a shame. But I have been in love with Littondale ever since. I can remember walking from Hawksick Cote to the Queens Arms, getting totally smashed and waking up back at the campsite with no idea how I got back there. Also the place where I first di any fell running.
