Johnson to resign shortly it would seem

*Taking aside whatever you think of the individuals*

If you accept the premise that he appointed the best people for the jobs in Cabinet, who are no longer there, then there needs to be an interim Prime Minister who can appoint a new Cabinet to do the actual job of governing.

Only way this is completely over, in my opinion, is if a caretaker is appointed in the interim.

I refuse to believe he would not otherwise use the next three months to attempt, via whatever means necessary, to cling onto power.

The tories will be wanting a new leader in quickly.

Being reported in the media now:

Johnson is planning on introducing a policy programme over the next few weeks to prioritise the economy - announcing tax cuts etc.

So a lame PM is making massive decisions on tax and borrowing whilst he sits in office having announcing his resignation.

This is why he needs to go. More ministers are resigning. This is untenable.

He’s resigned as head of the party

He no longer has any power.

Who does then?
As I said yesterday it’s party politics we elect the party the leader is up to the party to decide.

Look at Blair and Gordon brown one out one in no election 🗳

The tories will be moving to end this impasse quickly as it’s a PR nightmare.

Michael Hesletine doesn't agree. He's just said that Johnson will try and push through policies whilst he is still in Power.

The leader of the Conservatives has no power - the Prime Minister does. And Johnson is still he Prime Minister.

Climate sceptic and ERG leader Steve Baker had thrown his hat into the ring, god help us

I can’t see him sticking around now to be honest he’s a dead duck he’s failed.

Let’s see how it pans out over the next few days.

Michael Heselting talking so much sense in his interview just now.

That's my understanding. It's a mess.

They'd presumably have an interim leader of the Tories would they? Or no leader.

But then also a PM.

The PM is the one who appoints ministers and signs off on policy etc.

But this PM has lost the confidence of his own party. By some margin. Can he fill a cabinet? Presumably, just. With his usual loyalists and sycophants. But some of them will need to distance themselves from him for their own ambitions.

As it stands he's not resigning as PM. He's just saying he will do in October. I'm a bit surprised he's finally caved, but I think he'll be thinking he can someone "turn it around" so he won't have to give up the job. His mind does not work like everyone else's.

This is my understanding also, he's caretaker PM until a new one is in place (or unless HE decides that he isn't, unlikely).

There's rightly a lot of pressure on him to step down immediately but those pushing for that outcome may back off for fear that he reverses his agreement to resign at all?

He still holds the majority of the cards in terms of leadership and, whilst it's generally agreed that caretaker PMs do not take significant policy decisions, the buck still stops with him and he is, in my opinion, highly likely to break with that tradition (as he appears to be doing this morning with the tease of tax cuts).

That is the key right there

All those worrying and looking at conspiracy theories that’s the real issue he’s lost the party and that only ever ends one way.

He’s gone.
