McGoldrick

Why are people assuming Gayle is coming in, I don't think I've even seen us linked with him (I could have just missed it)?

A striker that doesn’t score.

Our problem last season was strikers that don’t score. If he is signed to be a ‘back-up’ option, then he takes to place of Watmore (who’s better) or Coburn, which would harm his development.

No thank you on him or Gayle for me.

I predict Matt Crooks will be tasked with more with defensive responsibilities and perhaps not score as much.
Martin Payero if he stays to go head to head with Jonny Howson.
Marcus Tavernier will continue on an upwards path of goals and assists.
Cameron Archer's pro rata return for a predicted 29 games would return an expected 10.15 goals tipping us into our target.
Tongue in cheek btw saying that Dwight Gayle will not score and only make 8 appearances.

These are just fag packet calcs based on last seasons stats obviously there will me movement here and there but I think it proves a point and shows we are heading in the right direction.

I've been a bit cheeky sticking in Gyokeres and Archer in there but we'll be there or there abouts. Hopefully Dael Fry stays, I've taken him him out of the top scorers for this exercise. Could have easily have easily been Anfernee Dijksteel (don't get your knickers in a twist)

McGoldrick is a solid player at this level. Been around the block, plenty of ability know how Wilder plays. Yes he's getting on, yes he's never going to get 20 goals. But he makes good runs, plays with his head up, makes space, asks questions and got 15 league goals last time he played a full season at this level. Bamford is the only Boro striker to beat that in the champo in 30 years
Exactly and if we are behind in a game he allows us to go 3412 as he can play in 10 too. With the extra subs we are allowed to make this season you could see that scenario playing itself out more than once if we are behind in games and are looking for something different. Aslong as we bring 2 first choicers this signing makes sense to me and I’m fairly happy with it.

Genuinely wasn’t been clever just letting you know you’ve missed it as you hadn’t seen any links. Yeah, we have been linked.
From a quick google search the full thing is based on a one liner in the Mail, which is actually about Newcastle signing Matt Targett... I can't see Gayle being a Wilder player at all, doesn't fit his system what so ever.

It’s came from a reputable talk sport journalist too and a few ITKS seem to think it’s very close

All come out around the same time as that one liner in the Mail, personally can't see it as I don't seeing him fitting into the system Wilder likes to play

Yeah then it went quiet for a couple of weeks whilst it seems negotiations took place, and now over last couple of days the ITK Boro fans of the world are all claiming it’s all but done. Time will tell I suppose

Is more to his game than stats .He is a hard working skilful footballer. When the games are coming thick and fast he will be handy to have around.Great back up player with experience who knows what this manager is all about .

I would say obviously all the strikers (and most of the midfielders and centre halves except Crooks) were well below the expected level of goals scored last season.

I think the strikers can shoulder a decent chunk of the blame, but in many many games, the strikers made runs and showed for the ball and the player in possession didn't have the guile, confidence, ability, vision (or whatever) to pick them out and we went across the the midfield five again and started to build for another attempt.

Whilst not 100% the answer, McGoldrick works his socks off, knows the system & manager, knows the league and is a clever link up player. He's going to come in and be more of a Nugent signing than a Bamford/Britt IMO.

I think he'll do well in the squad role he's (hopefully/maybe) been given. He is obviously getting on but Duncan the ginger menace can do some of his running for him I'm sure.
