And the gazette post s***y headlines like this,

https://www.gazettelive.co.uk/news/teesside-news/big-spike-covid-19-deaths-18350657

Then tell you halfway through the story, well actually,

Of the six deaths reported by the NHS today at South Tees, three were registered on Friday, one on Saturday and two on Sunday. At North Tees, one of the deaths was registered on Saturday and the second on Sunday.

Why not lead with them stats instead of "big spike"? Clickbait.

2037 positive tests in Teesside and 328 in North Yorkshire in South Tees hospital district.

0.6% increase in Teesside positive tests.

Do you per chance have the number of tests carried out at the same time?

So 2037 positive in total out of how many tests
Then an increase of 11 (I believe) and how many tests had happened today.

It would give your figures some context.

I don't. I'm not even sure if these figures include the postal results. But, there were 171,829 tests today. Some were research and some antibody tests. Possibly 1871 positives from a 132,000 tests, depending how many postal figures included. The questioning of the government on how these statistics are presented were spot on. It's impossible to know what's going on. The most important figure is probably the NHS Pillar 1 figures, which had 585 positives today - of these about 70% may have led to hospital admissions. These are falling by about 30% a week.

Also, the Teesside figures have generally been below the national average for over two weeks.

That's good news.. thanks for the heads up.. it's getting harder and harder to find figures as things 'wind down' and they aren't splashed all over the 'front pages' you certainly have done some excellent figure digging sir.

Alvez, have you looked into the way the tests are being carried out and reported?

It's incredible. How can reasonable statistics be ascertained from them?

It's third world country stuff. That's what four decades of lunacy does to the country.

Oh I assume it's a **** show I've not looked into since the false hopes about anti body testing kits being available several months back.
I knew obviously about the 100k for a couple of days lies at the start of may but seeing as the way we've done it it doesn't tell us anything I just went meh... And carried on.

He was talking about the ONS surveillance survey (Pillar 3) which attempts to estimate the proportion of the population infected with Covid-19 at any point in time. This has shown approx. 8,000 new cases per day for the past three weeks, which is one of the reasons that SAGE believes the R number remains close to 1.

But I thought the 8000 figure was guesswork?

Separate matter I mentioned this in the EFL positive thread that you might be able to clarify.

These footballers and staff who have tested positive must be asymptomatic yes otherwise they would not be anywhere near the training ground? Is it possible this could translate to the wider population?

Sorry, I must have missed this post last night. Yes, I would envisage that it is similar to what’s happening in the wider population.

If you look at the various strands of testing, those who are symptomatic are picked up by Pillars 1 and 2, which are showing approx. 1,500 to 2,000 positive tests per day. But the ONS surveillance survey estimates that there are approx. 8,000 new infections per day, which would suggest that something like 75-80% of infections might be very mild/asymptomatic.

No further deaths announced by South Tees NHS Trust, total remaining at 238.

There should be an ONS infection update today, but nothing so far.

The ONS does this sometimes. Promises a data release on a particular date and then doesn't publish it without explaining the reasons for the delay.

Are private tests included?

No. It's a randomly sampled (sort of) survey conducted by the ONS and Oxford University.

It includes 11,000 households in the first phase of the study, with the aim to survey 132,000 households over the next year (i.e. 11,000 households per month).
