Well done max - f1 world champion

He was laid bare yesterday.
How do you justify that comment? Laid bare by overtaking Max and pulling away from him, despite having less grippy tyres? Laid bare by covering Max at the pit stop and slowly pulling away from him when they were on the same tyres?

I suggest you're on a complete wind up because I don't believe you're stupid enough to actually believe that comment!

I dunno. I've just come back to watching F1 over the last couple of weeks after a break of a few years and the last to grand prix have been terrific. They have been exciting and controversial and it makes me want to watch more of it.

If there had been no safety car yesterday it would have been a boring finish and a boring race but it wasn't and I thought it was great. Everyone is still talking about it - even my 80 year old mother tuned in and enjoyed it.

I think everyone is emotional and overreacting somewhat - it's happened now - we'll probably all tune in next season along with lots of new fans looking forward to the Hamilton Verstappen rivalry and to see how it all plays out.
The thing is. An F1 race is most of the time pretty uneventful. That's the way it's been since I've watched since the mid-nineties. It's usually one or two teams (sometimes three) who have a much better car than the rest. Those cars when reliable cannot be caught and the drivers are all good enough to win without too much fuss.

Regulations, protocol and precedent are all there to ensure races are managed consistently. Yesterday went against every single F1 race ever. The fact is, Verstappen should not have been allowed to start on fresher tyres immediately behind Hamilton. That is totally wrong. That is the objective view without any emotion.

So from reading all 14 pages of this F1 fans would rather a race finish under the safety car than having a crazy exciting one lap shoot out for the Championship - well as long as their man (Hamilton wins).
I've just read this comment! Wow that's the worst take on it I've seen. Even zorro didn't say something that ridiculous.

For the record I'd rather the rules were followed and the race was fair. But that didn't happen

He's been on a wind up in F1 threads for months now. His first attempts were to tell everyone who would listen how boring F1 was. And now he's trying to get a rise out of Hamilton fans. Guy seems to have some issues, it weird to see a grown up attention seeking like this.

Maybe you should watch wrestling? They pre determine the result there too and the action is made exciting.

Yeah I never got that behaviour. You have to have something wrong in your life, some unhappiness to troll on the internet. It's sad really.

Beaten by the better driver over a series of races, well done verstappen. He will rule the F1 roost for years to come.
Conveniently ignoring all the input on this thread. It's a tainted Championship based on a fabricated protocol made up by a Race Director who caved to pressure.

If Verstappen had won fairly yesterday, there would be no argument from anyone - how could there be? As it was, Red Bull failed in their gamble, until the conditions were created for them to win.

I'd put @Tom_Boro up there with @zzzzz as just a sad and lonely troll on these threads. Which is why he doesn't read them, just comments something on a wind up. Like I said, it's really pathetic behaviour and I feel sorry for them.

Come on ST - it was exciting. Last week Lewis got the rub of the green, this week is was Max. I appreciate what you diehards are saying about rules and regulations but as someone coming back to the sport the last 2 weeks have been brilliant to watch.

It's a strange old thread this - a newcomer (or returnee) is saying 'Wow, how great is F1 - that was bloody exciting' and the diehard fans are disagreeing 'it's disgraceful, cheating, etc' and criticising those who enjoyed it.

Each to their own, obviously. I understand you are upset about it all but I loved it. Roll on 2022.

I can't remember a season where there have been as many discussions about the race director and his input? I think that alone shows something is going wrong here. The bloke is out of his depth.

Credit to Hamilton for his reaction anyway, hopefully Verstappen can learn from that maturity.

It was indeed exciting. My heart was beating so fast. What it wasn't,though, was a sport. It was contrived and a manufactured "storyline"

As I said, if you want excitement above sporting fairness then wrestling is the one for you. I prefer rules to be followed. There have been plenty of exciting races where the race director hasn't faked an ending.

This is what is wrong with the sport. A race is a race. If you can finish under green flags they should do EVERYTHING possible to do this.

I've watched F1 for 20 odd years taking a break over the last few as it was getting dull and tedious. The last two races have brought me back and it's been fantastic to watch.

Last week Hamilton appeared to get the favour of the stewards, this week it was Verstappen. Swings and roundabouts.

All those who are saying they are finished with F1 shall we book mark this thread and see if you have watched it next year? You probably will.

Yesterday was everything motor racing should be. Reminded me of the good old days when there was proper needle with drivers rather than one bloke driving off in the lead.

I'll be watching next year for sure now.

Well done Verstappen - gutsy race lad! - well deserved win and Championship!
Incorrect, they want the rules applied correctly

Yeah, we always say in football the best referee is the one you don't notice. Michael Massi has made a name for himself this year. In a job where it's wise to be anonymous.

How did Lewis get the rub of the green last week?

Congratulations to Max Verstappen. Over the course of 2021 he has driven spectacularly well and can consider himself a worthy champion. Even though he got lucky at the death, he's had his fair share of misfortune so perhaps things evened themselves out over the season. He is too talented not to end up a multiple World Champion regardless of whether he won this time.

Congratulations also to Lewis Hamilton. He has been epic in these last 4 races and but for Michael Masi, would now be an 8 time World Champion. He handled being screwed over like a titan of the sport and has gone up even further in my estimation. Here's hoping that he comes back stronger next season and regains the Championship to make him undisputed GOAT.

Aside from Checo who showed Bottas what a team mate should be doing, nobody else from the top two teams deserves much credit yesterday as far as I am concerned. Mercedes appeal is unedifying, although I fully understand that they have to try. Nevertheless, I would hate to see the appeal be successful (despite carrying a huge amount of merit) as a prolonged legal back and forth will damage F1 even more. As for Red Bull, I don't know which of the following makes me cringe the most - Horner claiming the moral high ground when it is 100% certain that they would have appealed in the same circumstances, or boasting about the great strategy call they made to pit Max under the SC (as if there was any risk involved in doing so). Toto Wolf is definitely a bad loser, but Horner is a bad winner incapable of acting with grace.

Last but not least, we come to the real villain - Michael Masi. Make no mistake, yesterday Mr Masi decided to go full on Mr McMahon from WWE (I would not have been surprised to see him raising Max's arm on the podium!). He had a difficult but ultimately simple choice. Option 1, follows the rules as have been applied at every previous GP and let Hamilton keep the lead he had earned, or option 2, adapt the rules so that Max was guaranteed the title but for a driver error. The fact that he chose option 2 has destroyed F1 as a sporting entity and turned it into sports entertainment, where the man behind the curtain decides who is going to win on any given day. This has been coming for a long time, with Masi making decisions on a race by race basis depending how he "feels" that particular day. At best he is incompetent, but I actually feel he may even be corrupt. Either way, he has to go otherwise F1 has no sporting credibility left.

It's such a shame that the season has ended under this cloud and whilst Max probably won't give a flying fig, his first title will forever be tainted by a question mark, even though on the day he did nothing wrong.

Great post. Those on this thread trolling should read. It's not about Verstappen or Hamilton winning. It's about how the protocol was not followed allowing a totally unfair advantage to one driver.

Nobody is saying Verstappen isn't quality. He clearly is outstanding and if Red Bull keep on providing one of the best cars, he'll win several more titles.
