Middlesbrough braced for summer in interest in Djed Spence

My biggest issue with him is he looks like he's just rolled up to a park game and appears to amble around half a**ed. Spells when he seems interested but doesn't seem to have the desire to be a consistent performer at the moment.

Hopefully that will change.

This must be his agent trying to create interest.

He isn’t ready for the Premiership and I doubt he ever will be.

I can’t see anyone paying anywhere near seven figures for him this summer and thus expect we’ll loan him out to league 1 next season and see if he can grow up a little.

7-10mil? I was thinking more 2-3 at best.

I know he's young but he's clearly got issues retaining information. Warnock has called him out numerous times publicly about it. I'm not sure what game it was but he said 'Djed forgot in 10 mins everything we'd worked on all week'. I thought that was pretty damming.

I'm not fussed either way. He may go on and become a top class wing back but I'm not sure if will he with us as the gaffer don't trust him.

The one thing I would say is make sure we bang in plenty of clauses (especially sell on percentage). He would only need one good season at a Burnley or villa and he'd be worth 3-4 times what they pay.

Having watched him all season I'd be tempted to sell but situations like this are always difficult. What do teams with more money, options and better scouting networks see in him that we don't?

For what it's worth I definitely see his future further up the field. He seems quite naive defensively (despite working hard) whereas he looks pretty sharp one on one against full backs. Common to a lot of players his age who have turned out very well it's his "end product" that needs work. If he could be coached/trusted to consistently put in good balls (likely cut backs given his pace) we could have a very useful player on our hands.

This is why I definitely think he will be shown the door.

What is the point of the coaching staff, manager and team going through match prep all week if a player just 'forgets' it shortly after getting onto the pitch?

Good luck to the lad, but he will be no great loss when he leaves.

I find little evidence that any of the players have worked on anything through the week. When we're behind and chasing a game, any tactics go out the window and we start playing some football and have got more points after going behind than most clubs.

Which goals? How many have Howson and McNair been responsible for by comparison?

If our coaching staff aren't up to it, change them.
I get you don’t like the manager, now you start on the coaching staff. . If you want a change fine, but who do you think should replace them. Too many people want change without having a suitable alternative.

For me, he's the victim of overachieving in his first few appearances. There's an assumption he could play like that all the time if he wanted, but we all know players have purple patches of form.

Still, he's not kicked , and those performances weem to have been the exception, not the rule.

I also feel RB is an area where we're quite strong, so if a good offer came in, I wouldn't object to him going.

I would be amazed if a Premier League club made an offer. He is a poor defender, poor further forward, doesn't know when to put a cross in either. I think around £2M plus a 25% sell on clause is about right based on last season.

It's how we got that fancy Dan from Spurs who we sold to Liverpool and how Millwall got a superb centre back from us.

He's 20, body and mind still developing. He's got the physical attribute so many crave on here, pace. Let him develop it.

He's a better player now than Fry was at 20.

Fair point about Fry, I'm not disappointed if he stays either. I suppose it all comes down to the offer.

I do think criticism of him has been way over the top, but really his early form has become a stick to beat him with.
