Middlesbrough braced for summer in interest in Djed Spence

I would keep him as I have said, I think he will be great if he matures a bit which is quite likely. There is a risk that he doesn't but how much of a risk? He won't be on silly money and if he chooses not to renew his contract we lose a bit of transfer money. That's why I would keep him little risk and a good chance he will improve.
 
If retained he needs a visit to Spec Savers and/or a haircut which might improve his vision.
Perhaps then he’ll stop giving the ball away!
 
Was hugely impressed by him and Hayden when the broke through. However I am underwhelmed with the progress he has made. Poor positioning and error prone. Seems to lack concentration. I'd be happy to sell for £ 3m.
 
I've said this many times on here about spence and no one seems to recognise his role has completely changed.
He broke through as a right back playing with a winger in front of him. The winger came inside and gave him space. He got the ball ran from deep and looked exciting. Probably not having to think and just going for it.

Defensively as a full back had a man in front of him to mark so one on one even if he got beaten his pace got him out of trouble.

Now hes a winger with no trick, not fast from a standing start and has 2 or 3 to beat as we have no one moving up front or in midfield. He will never be good enough in that position. Hes an athletic full back who can block crosses one on one and get the team up the pitch.

Blame the manager for trying to make him something he never was.

Yes some people. He was having a nightmare at the time but came through it ok. No reason to think Spence and Coulson can't come good. As well as Fry (some) people would have also got rid of Bola and Djiksteel. People were also getting at McNair before he was moved into defence. You are only as good as your last game as a Boro player, have two or three bad games in a row and the hounds are braying for your head.
Spence and Coulson cost us nothing so lets hang on to them at least another season.

Well said . Unless we get a daft offer on either Spence or Coulson , we should keep them and improve them , remembering they are young . Next season they are a year older , and both need to beef up pre season, as Warnock says , go away as boys , come back as men. Bin them now and pay the price .
I.e. Morrison , Brunt , Wyke , Reach .
