Irish now suspend Astra Zeneca vaccine

Just watching Sky News and the experts they had on there to share their views on this were genuinely perplexed. One did add a caveat that he doesn't know the data that these countries are using and he also pointed to different genetic make-ups. I think he was scraping the barrel in terms of offering any rationale that he could think of when trying to offer a balanced view.

I did read the following passage and quote from a top Norwegian health expert.

A top Norwegian health expert has explained why the country decided to suspend its use of the AstraZeneca vaccine.

Sara Watle, a senior physician at the Norwegian Institute of Public Health, said use of the vaccine had been put on hold while more information was gathered.

Several people in Norway became very sick days after receiving AstraZeneca jabs, including one person who died of a brain haemorrhage, she said.

In an interview with BBC Radio 4’s World at One programme, Watle said the cases were “young individuals” who had suffered blood clots and bleeding about five to 10 days after vaccination.

“So, we’re looking at very rare events that all came at the same time in our country,” she said.

When asked if these sorts of medical issues happened anyway, she said: “Yes, they absolutely do and that’s why we need to look more into these events.”

Norway was one of the first countries to suspend use of the AstraZeneca vaccine over concerns about possible side effects.

All under 50 for the four Norwegian cases.

Confusing interview. Very rare events that happen all the time so we need to look at them?

It took a while for Germany who runs the EU to confirm his suspicions but they got there in the end. What were they, eighth?
Hard to tell. as some of the countries aren't in the EU. Which kind of steps on Zorros point a bit. as does the fact only about a third of EU countries have stopped using the vaccine.

Now Spain

btw my issue isn’t stopping vaccinations that’s there right.

My issue is why when Pfizer has had more deaths do they single out Astra Zeneca the said same drug they have a serious personal issue with and have had open spats with for months

this is political and its personal.

EU playing politics with peoples lives How convenient for them having screwed up on vaccinations delivery to be able to fabricate a delay on safety grounds,
The natural occurance of blood clots is less than 2 in 1000,

Blood on their hands.

Certainly looks like a ridiculous decision by multiple countries who should know better.

I very much hope that proves to be the case too, given it benefits nobody for them to be right, and fingers crossed there aren't many deaths caused by halting use of millions of doses of available and effective vaccines.

Why are none EU countries stopping using it then?

Suspected rate of clots that German Institute pressed pause on: 7 in 1.6 million.

Rate of blood clots from taking the contraceptive pill: 1 in 1000. Or, with common denominator, 1600 in 1.6 million.

That's ignoring that the clots are likely completely unrelated to the vaccine too.

I'm sure there will be an element of them being worried/spooked by the response of some of those countries within the EU.
I don’t think you’ve got your timelines correct. Norway were one of the first countries to ban it. So I doubt they were spooked by something that didn’t happen, in countries in an organisation to which they don’t belong

Approaching 150,000 deaths. No holds barred on two BBC stories tonight.

I saw pictures of blood clots recently. I was amazed at their size. I was under the illusion they were about the size of a few grains of sugar but some are as big as a tablespoon.
I can't imagine the damage that would do if it got to your brain
