Irish now suspend Astra Zeneca vaccine

How many EU countries have pulled the plug until further research?

I agree about the EU countries supporting one another, rightly that's what the EU all about, and should be, and why the standard of living has improved so much in what were impoverished nations. Perhaps also why we're not handling the pandemic so well.

I'm not sure that's been the case here. The EU authority is still backing the use of the drug, the individual nations are using their sovereignty to make decisions (we claimed we didn't have any) with regards to it.
I think that's a perfect summing up of the situation.

OK, I can't disagree with any of that, and yes, the EU have continued to back the drug. I just can't help thinking that France/Germany/Italy/Spain wouldn't split up and make differing decisions on this, but of course, I agree with your post.

Paranoia ?

I don't wish or think everyone hates us, I was merely stating that there isn't just a scientific agenda going on here, but also some politics are being played..............in my opinion.
I totally understand why you see it this way. There is a huge "them and us" rhetoric at the moment between Britain and the EU. The fact this mentality doesn't actually exist on the continent is just being overlooked. Apart from when we break international law there simply is no conspiracy of the EU being against the UK.

Tell that to Macron.

Le bloke can't stand us and has never tried to hide it.

Personally I'd give him a hug and ask him how his Gran is, sorry I mean the wife ;)

Think it’s just the EU country’s been over cautious to try and get people back on side after Macron and co comments about the vaccine put them off getting the vaccine

But as a virologist on the BBC this morning said, it's not being overly cautious, it's throwing caution to the winds, by adopting a strategy that will actually put more people in their countries at more risk of getting sick or dying.

But we are told that statistically you have very little chance of dying from Covid unless you are very old and/or have underlying conditions.

So for a good few people they might fear the vaccine more than the Covid and in this unbelievably selfish world we find ourselves in they will not worry about the more vulnerable.

You have to appreciate that vaccination of the population is not about saving the individual but about protecting the relatively few. If you have little chance of meeting your demise with Covid why risk injecting yourself with something which might be damaging?

Iys also not the EU countries. Its some neighbouring countries nothing to do with the EU which has declared the vaccine safe.

I think you know what I mean but just for people like you I’m only talking about country’s in the eu
I know you're only taking about countries in the EU. Just pointing out it has no relevance in this case because not all EU countries have stopped the use of the vaccine, some none EU countries have stopped use of the vaccine and the EU regulatory authorities have declared it safe. So mentioning the EU in posts is just an irrelevance and it seems like a way of trying to "blame" the EU which doesn't make sense.

Are this lot for F***ing real, now moaning about not getting the AZ vaccine even though they've suspended it in parts of the EU ?

European Commission threatens to restrict vaccine exports

The head of the European Commission has threatened to restrict coronavirus vaccine exports if third countries do not also allow exports in a reciprocal and proportionate way.
Ursula von der Leyen says this could apply to countries with higher vaccination rates than those in the EU - an apparent reference to Britain.
Von der Leyen says the UK is the number one country receiving vaccines from the EU, but no doses of the AstraZeneca jab have come the other way.
She says the EU is facing "the crisis of the century" - and all options are on the table.
"It is hard to explain to our citizens why vaccines produced in the European Union are going to other countries that are also producing vaccines, but hardly nothing is coming back to the European Union," she tells a news conference.
"I want to be clear on reciprocity - if the situation does not change we will have to reflect on how to make exports to vaccine-producing countries dependent on their level of openness," she warns.

I thought we had explained it in the this thread? The EU have not suspended the vaccine and the EMA have said it’s safe. Other countries are expressing their sovereignty and stopping using it of their own accord. You’re getting annoyed at something simply because you haven’t grasped the situation.

Confirms that vaccine concerns are nothing to do with the he EU but individual health agencies across the world.

You couldn’t make it up, clearly shows how much politicking is going on.

At least we let them have our variant with no restrictions 😁

Are you for real, Tommy?

Pretty straight forward what the EU have said all along with regards to the vaccine, and if we're all take and no give it's easy to understand her gripe.
