They really do follow the Eu on everything don’t they.

“It has not been concluded that there is any link between the Covid-19 vaccine AstraZeneca and these cases. However, acting on the precautionary principal, and pending receipt of further information, the NIAC has recommended the temporary deferral of the Covid-19 vaccine AstraZeneca vaccination programme in Ireland. ”
The NIAC will meet again on Sunday morning and issue a further statement after.

They're responding to a Norwegian report. Nothing to do with the EU

Of course it’s to do with the Eu look at how the other nations have responded come on bear you can’t see that this isn’t a political issue.

There is no indication that the Oxford-AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine is linked to an increased risk of blood clots, the EU's medicines regulator says.

It said the number of cases in vaccinated people was no higher than in the general population.

The statement came after a number of countries, including Denmark and Norway, suspended the use of the jab.

yet the scaremongering from Eu leaders and member states goes on.

I don't understand the point here. A number of EU (and non-EU) countries have suspended use of the AZ vaccine following something that has happened in a non-EU country. The EU has not made a recommendation.

What data are they basing their suspension on? We’ve vaccinated 25 million people and they’re hardly dropping like flies, how big a study do you need. Someone died of a ‘possibly’ related cause. Without AZ tens of thousands would have died. Is there something I don’t understand about odds?

From Reuters

The European Union's most senior administrator said she would happily receive AstraZeneca's coronavirus vaccine as officials rushed to find ways of ensuring doses refused by skittish Germans did not go to waste.

President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen's remarks came amid growing concerns that unfavourable comments by top European officials including French President Emmanuel Macron had slowed take-up of one of only three vaccines currently approved EU-wide.

Earlier this month, Macron said Britain had taken a risk in authorising AstraZeneca so rapidly. A German official study also found evidence that, though effective, the vaccine has more severe side effects than its two main rivals.

Deaths from vaccinations are incredibly rare. Possibly some children with the polio vaccine but virtually none from flu vaccinations. It's always taken very seriously as even though the benefits are huge, any possibility of a death are taken very seriously. In this instance, I guess they believe the balance of precaution should take precedence. They have alternatives available, albeit coming through so slowly.

These Astra Zeneca shenanigans all seem very political by the EU states, almost like they are trying to punish AZ publicly for reneging on their delivery promises yet conveniently forgetting the same supply issues from Pfizer etc. As you say 15 million doses in the UK is a much more robust study than what is based in the Scandinavian report.

Bear so you don’t think there is a political smear campaign within Europe for this vaccine as we know some Eu citizens have refused to have the jab with reports of wasted stocks going un used in Germany.

stories like this we only exacerbate the issue and that can’t be good for anyone.

Non EU states taking similar decisions. Billions of flu vaccinations and difficult to find one associated death.

I think this decision by our closest neighbour is particularly worrying as this will no doubt magnify the issue over the border as well.

In this instance no.

I was impressed listening to the Irish foreign minister yesterday morning talking about why he believes it would be in everyone's interest for a US, EU, UK and Canada trade deal. Didn't pick up any anti-UK rhetoric in his interview at all.

But aren’t they just cutting off their nose to spite their face?
I think the precautionary health measure is to avoid cutting off their nose to spite their face.

I agree it's a big decision but, in normal times, any concerns over a vaccine would stop it's use. Ireland have already announced far greater restrictions than us through to the summer and have alternative vaccines being delivered and on order to allow this temporary pause.
