I enjoy stouts, porters and dark ales. Guinness is a firm favourite but after you've tried it in Ireland you feel like you are constantly comparing it. Some say it's a myth but I've never tasted a drop of it so good as I did in Dublin. Over here you get good pints of it but a lot seem to have a strange chemical aftertaste. I found Murphy's on draught in London a couple of years back and it was so good. Very difficult to find over here. I may need to venture to Cork some time.
I've really gotten in to milk stouts. You get so many variations of stouts/porters now. Coffee, Chocolate, Bourbon or Rum infused. I like IPA'S and a decent lager now and again but if I see a stout on draught in a micro pub, that is where I'm heading.
I love a good IPA, and there are some cracking ones with sharp citrus flavours, but I think stouts and porters cover a whole different palette range. I hope this side of craft beer continues to expand over the next few years.I enjoy stouts, porters and dark ales. Morrisons have a decent craft beer section, better than most supermarkets. But your best bet is online, some good offers for most beer clubs. Are there any wholesalers locally that stock decent beer? Supermarkets are selling the same usual ales.
Cheers, I'll have a look. Three brothers Brewery in Stockton are selling packs of 12 bottles from the brewery. Do a nice Porter and Ruby aleMorrisons have a decent craft beer section, better than most supermarkets. But your best bet is online, some good offers for most beer clubs.
You don't and won't want to be tasting burnt hops, or grain for that matter.I love a decent pint of Guinness but these flavoured stouts go in the same category as fruity ciders and alcopops for me.
It's stout so you're supposed to be able to taste the burnt hops or whatever it is, not a liquid cheescake.
I bow to your superior knowledge but this thread reads like a Ben & Jerry flavour love in.You don't and won't want to be tasting burnt hops, or grain for that matter.
Adding fruit etc to flavour different beers isn't something new , its been going on for hundreds of years
I get your point though Tommy, think you would love that verdant I mentioned earlier , full of flavourI bow to your superior knowledge but this thread reads like a Ben & Jerry flavour love in.
Not for me, I'm out.
Old Tom has always been in Sainsburys (haven't looked recently). It used to say 'best beer in the world' or such like on the label, but not now.Enjoyed two of those this evening. Still the best IMO. Riggwelter is nice too, and a nod to Robinsons Old Tom, if you can find it
Yes, found it in Sainsbury's after someone else mentioned it earlier. Lovely drop, but McEwans Champion is right next to it in the shop and that is my current favourite.Old Tom has always been in Sainsburys (haven't looked recently).
