No Masks in Lidl

Store management should be made responsible and they should ensure that all their staff comply.
For christs sake foggy you cannot delegate legislation to shop staff, they are neither trained nor equipped to deal with it. The level of debate on this board is shocking sometimes.

To your last comment, if you cannot police legislation, don't pass it - simple really.

How the hell is a skinny, untrained, minimum wage 18 year old supposed to 'ensure compliance'? What do you expect them to do with an abusive, aggressive big bloke who refuses to play the game?

I expect them to call shop management and shop security to deal with the big bloke, Harry.

In addition to that there can't be a shop anywhere without CCTV cameras which could be used to enforce. Most of the larger retailers have all their customers on a computer through their debit and credit cards so that they can be notified of special offers, etc. They know exactly who you, me and all their customers are through our debit and credit cards and our smartphones. They know our names and addresses.

The retail analyst Bill Grimsey told me that when he or his daughter or anyone else is on the train into town, their smart phones ping their regular shops to let them know they are on their way into town. If you are a customer who has used your cards or phone in the store before, you can be easily traced.

As I said to Laughing, shop staff should notify Management and Shop Security and the police called if necessary. If there is no legislation then we might as well give up now and let everyone do whatever they want to and watch Covid spread. You can't expect every shop to have a cop in it!

No Foggy, pass the legislation then police it. Perhaps, and I am just thinking aloud here, we shouldn't have cut the police force back to the point where they can only prosecute murderers and speeders.

Boycott the places that are just not bothered, and let them know, I put the Irish lottery on for my mother in corals, no one with a mask no one challenged, I went into william hills and everyone wore one or was told to do so.

I emailed corals to complain, and they got straight back, enquired about which shop, hopefully action will be taken.

Its not only scruffy northern towns with the local plebs ignoring mask wearing in shops. Middle class/ studenty Exeter has gone the same way in the last couple of weeks, many people think the virus is a hoax or not dangerous, when it starts properly ramping up again and the initial viral loads people take in are greater than previously over the last 2/3 months then it might be time to sit up and take notice again.

I should just be clear on this, I didn't ask the security guard to kick anyone out, I just said to him that loads of people are not wearing masks.
His reply was - "They don't have to wear them, it is up to them."

It is government legislation with fiscal penalties, let the government enforce the rule, as is the case with every other law. Why should minimum wage employees be doing the job of the police? the answer is they shouldn't. They are not trained to do it and have no powers to enforce the legislation.

It is the governments responsibility to legislate and police those legislations.

That's nonsense.

No one is saying the shop staff have to perform a citizens arrest & then fine someone for not wearing a mask.
Just as they do with all other regulations (alcohol, cigarettes, etc) refuse service without compliance.

There’s enough evidence now to suggest that face coverings are a total waste of time. The cases started increasing after they were brought in. No decrease in deaths as they were already low anyway.

Shop workers are exempt because the HSE deemed it not necessary or no benefit to them wearing one all day. As no risk assessment has been carried out for the public i fail to see how they can be enforced to be honest. I won’t personally wear one for this reason, I choose to just stay away from the shops as I can’t be bothered with arguing.
Feel free to wear your face coverings if you want but it’s really not worth stressing yourselves over the choices of others. Not everyone follows the official narrative

Peace to you all

I’m convinced that taxis are one of the main reasons for the increase in cases in the town. I haven’t got in one since before the lockdown, and have no intention on doing so, but I see so many people using them. Drivers generally are not wearing masks and there’s no cleaning of the cars after each use.

I wouldn’t be happy using a taxi if the driver was wearing a mask. Wouldn’t it invalidate his insurance if he’s wearing one in case his glasses steam up or it causes a distraction? Dear me.

I think the fact our govt told them all in that age bracket not to worry as it wouldn’t affect them that much as in the majority of cases it’s just a mild flu like illness and that they would be completely fine - prob hasn’t helped.
