No Masks in Lidl

The whole situation is a mess caused by a government that refuses to impose and legislate for the fact people are thoughtless and selfish. It does so knowing around maybe 60% of the population will be respectful to their requests and the rest will be hit and miss with some deliberately railing against it as they do not like being told what to do.

The police do not have the resources to focus on patrolling shops for non mask wearers. You can’t expect staff to take the verbal abuse that some scrotes will give. Security guards could be employed, to maybe refuse entry by the big boys at their big stores maybe, or shops could hand out masks for those without maybe, but some would still refuse. Ringing the police is totally pointless as by the time you get through on 101 and they eventually allocate a resource to attend, the original offender(s) will be long gone anyway. The government know this. It is a rule introduced merely to appease the responsible so the government can say they did there bit, while giving enough rope and doubt to allow anyone who can’t, doesn’t feel comfortable, or simply wont wear them a get out.

I get round the concern I personally have by shopping early doors or late on when shops are quieter. I always wear a mask indoors in shops. As we are entering coughs and colds season i can see this being more of an issue and causing more altercations. I just feel sad that a proportion of our fellow human beings are so thoughtless and selfish and think its funny to disobey reasonable rules. The biggest annoyance for me is the failure to respect social distancing. Others may have different views on my next comment, but of the age groups causing the greater issue, I find the worst offenders In my patch are the U/40’s. Clearly there are offenders across all ages though. I also have noticed when there are small groups of mates In shops (12 to 25) (yes anecdotal I know) the more likely they are to not wear them, as it is probably seen as uncool. They then go round to seen gran and grandad at some point.......

Where I work we are giving them out to those who 'forget'. Its not right, but we're more concerned about health.
We have had 2 people - 1 man and 1 woman - refuse to wear one
She flounced off. He - in his eyes - 'compromised' by standing well clear of everyone and using self service options

However I was told of somewhere else where the manager instructed staff not to refuse non mask wearers entry, and not to give out any masks

Well I've just been in Morrisons on Teesside Park and B&Q on Portrack and I'd say it was near enough 100% mask usage and, probably due to the time of day and numbers in the stores, well socially distanced.
Maybe it is socioeconomic, maybe it is down to attitudes, maybe it's down to other factors, whatever the reasons are, I honestly think it'll take another lockdown and an increase in deaths before some people change their attitudes towards being responsible for anyone other than themselves.

I don't think some will ever lose that attitude - no matter what

I feel sorry for the staff being compromised in challenging anyone. I guess some will forget their masks and some will say it as an excuse. Well done to your employee for offering those that ‘forget’ theirs, a mask. Those that still refuse are the exact selfish type I suspect to be careless with social distancing, good hygiene (regular hand washing etc) and you end up in close proximity trying to persuade them to do the right thing. Customer facing staff deserve our thanks and praise for keeping services running and working to keep us all as safe as possible. The very least we the public should do, is respect them and their safety every bit as much as we should do our fellow customers.

I just think people are over complicating this. I've seen a security guard doing it as I've said, and it worked just fine. If someone produces their exempt card then they get in. It's really not difficult.

You don’t have to produce evidence - you just have to say ‘you are exempt’.

I'll add that neither Morrisons or B&Q were policing the entrances this morning, but B&Q did still have the barriers outside so it might just be down to footfall dictating things.
I have noticed the adoption of a quite aggressive face on a lot of non-mask wearer's. Now wether this is down to them being sick of being accosted and having to advise that they are exempt or as a warning to anyone who might try and challenge them I am not able to say. There is a certain 'look' about them though.

How is the exemption proved, is there something issued by the doctor that needs to be shown??
From the gov.uk website -
Some people may feel more comfortable showing something that says they do not have to wear a face covering. This could be in the form of an exemption card, badge or even a home-made sign.
This is a personal choice, and is not necessary in law.

A home made sign.....wtf.....so that is the get out of jail card then???

I was in B&Q yesterday, spotted a few non mask wearers, quite a few round the chin or mouth only too. The guy who really annoyed me though didn't have a mask on, paid for his goods and then got in his car (parked in the parent and child area) on his own. With selfishness at that level we're doomed.

On the train the other day a bloke got on with his mask under his chin. After a while he raised it to cover his mouth but that didn't last long and it was under his chin again. Then the guard came round and asked him to wear it properly. So he said he was exempt. Words fail me sometimes.

Call the police for what? (I'm assuming people are being civilised). They can refuse entry but then open themselves up for prosecution under the equalities act (see previous post).
Nobody has a problem with people who are exempt. There is nothing stopping big stores asking people to put masks on. It's the responsible thing to do. If people are exempt fine. I've seen it myself and it stops the majority going in.

He may have been exempt?

Maybe trying to comply but found he couldn't due to his condition?
Point I'm trying to make is that we should not be turning against each other and making judgements, that is a slippery slope.
5.4 million people in the UK are currently receiving treatment for asthma and that is just one condition that would make you exempt.
People who are exempt should not be made to feel uncomfortable and judged because of the actions of a few that would take the pee.
