Villa have competition for Rogers

2 goals and 6 assists in the league across 26 appearances, which is a very average return.

5 goals and 3 assists in the 7 cup games, which is more impressive, but all but the consolation Chelsea goal were against lower league opposition.
Just to add a bit more context compared to the rest of the forwards (these are just for the league):
Azaz 7 goals 5 assists
Crooks 3 goals 6 assists
Jones 5 goals 2 assists
Forss 4 goals 2 assists
Greenwood 5 goals 3 assists
Silvera 2 goals 2 assists
Mcgree 3 goals

Not wild if you can see the ability. Depends how you rate the player I guess. But to me he clearly has in terms of creativity and a football brain what a lot of our team don't. Not always easy to replace.

Ramirez Tomlin type players.

Half a dozen more players more valuable? In terms of creating chances?
Spot on, statistically he's right up there as one of the best young creative players in the champo. Summerville is rightly the best, but after that Rogers is right up there for assists and creations. I'd argue that Rogers stats are negatively affected by his playing out of position and being part of a side that is chopping and changing every week. Hes had impressive contributions, needs to do the bits in between better, but I think he's improving week by week. The facts are the though, he's one of the most creative kids in the champo
.

This is justleague by the way nd ignores teh off the charts league cup performances, but against variable opposition.

There is talk that Villa need to offload someone and it looks to be Ramsey for £50m (!) to stay well within the P&S rules and it would give them a bit more wiggle room in the summer window. No wonder they are wary of putting lots of money upfront.

The downside of the FFP rules is that the academy stars are always the first ones to be sold when a club needs to claw back some losses.

No way would Villa be selling Jacob Ramsey otherwise

As I’ve said several times on this post, stop quoting £15m. We have not been offered £15m.

7.5m is peanuts for a prem side, very few players of that fee go to a top half prem side and play. Because of their FFP issues, they seem to be looking for cheap options, and have tried it on. 7.4m isn't a serious offer for one of the champo top young creative talents.

Rogers assists and xA compare favourably to other attacking midfielders / wingers
His xG isn't bad but he is undeperforming (3.8 v 2) - probably made up for that in the cup (the stats below are just league)

Who's gonna pay this ffs. Like he's a good player but he's not even a regular starter for them ffs, why would anyone pay £50m. Only team I've even seen linked is Newcastle and they're reported to be basically having to sell off players to comply with PSR themselves.

I don't think he's going anywhere (good) . Villa seem well short of the clubs valuation. Can't see them getting near it.

There's a wider point to all this around setting our stall out, managing expectations and setting precedents.

If we allow Villa to take the **** and rely on unsettling the player to drive the price down, it'll encourage other sides to do the same.

Same goes for players and their agents.

What you don't want is for VDB or Azaz or whoever, next January demanding to leave for a fee well below valuation and pointing to Rogers having been allowed to do the same this week.

So far the club have got this spot on IMO.

I think he's only actually started 14 games in the league, I think for a young player coming into an inconsistent team to have been directly involved in 8 goals from 14 starts is far from average.
If you include his League Cup games which were against teams from every single division, it's about 15 goals or assists in 19 starts (I think), which is very impressive.
But those stats don't tell you everything, they don't tell you about how he's created a lot more chances that we've not taken. They don't show everything which have motivated Villa to desperately try to sign him as their no.1 target.

Add-ons. They are primarily not being disclosed. Moreover as several have mentioned, the probability of many (with exception of possible sell-on fees) ever being exercised is often slim.

As a seller, the upfront or mandatory portion of the total fee should therefore be the key point of focus and discussion into evaluating whether or not our club should proceed. The notion of a player down tooling from a no-go should be secondary. We should not be bullied.

In short then, let’s not get lost in this total size of the deal crap.

I trust Scott and Gibson to do right for the club.

Just under half of his league goal involvements are from appearances off the bench, so I don't think you can exclude them when giving the figures.

He has 1 goal and 4 assists in his 14 league starts.

To be fair he is a regular starter, he's just been out injured most of this season. He started 60 out of 69 Premier League games in the 2 previous seasons when fit.
