Jimmy Page, David Bowie etc..... OK, so no one pressed charges but we all know it happened.Rolf Harris, Jimmy Saville, Gary Glitter: all cultural works deleted, never allowed to be heard/seen again.
Roman Polanski, Bill Wyman, Woody Allen: geniuses still celebrated.
Hit the nail on the head there. For many, it is possible to separate the art from the artist but in the case of those mentioned above, there's nothing left if you do that.Jimmy Page, David Bowie etc..... OK, so no one pressed charges but we all know it happened.
TBF Michael Jackson hasn't even been cancelled. Chris Rock does a good bit about how his songs are better than R Kelly's so basically its ok.
Thats why Rolf, Jimmy Saville and Glitter have been cancelled, because we can quite easily live without their artistic creations. But I agree, there's something very wrong about how some folk seem to get away with it.
Santa?
By worries do you mean incidents recounted in his autobiography of having sex with under age girls in return for records when he was a dj in the US?Wasn’t there worries about John Peel too? And he’s still celebrated by the BBC..
‘Cancelled’ - crazy how this word has just crept in. Cancel culture gone mad.Thats why Rolf, Jimmy Saville and Glitter have been cancelled, because we can quite easily live without their artistic creations. But I agree, there's something very wrong about how some folk seem to get away with it.
I used it for want of a better term, but I think “cancelled” is a particularly modern take on the idea of losing your job (or legacy) for something that may have been previously acceptable.‘Cancelled’ - crazy how this word has just crept in. Cancel culture gone mad.
Pretty sure people used to just get fired and not be able to get more work because of their criminal actions. All part of the Orwellian newspeak that we seem to have hoovered up.
Bad is Good, Lies are Truth.. etc etc
They were cancelled because they were serial sex offenders. Comparing bowie to a monster like saville is beyond preposterous‘Cancelled’ - crazy how this word has just crept in. Cancel culture gone mad.

Yeah, I get that. It’s just weird how it’s crept in and how being ‘cancelled’ is how we describe something that existed before.. but somehow not everyone agrees with it anymore.I used it for want of a better term, but I think “cancelled” is a particularly modern take on the idea of losing your job (or legacy) for something that may have been previously acceptable.
Barking up the wrong tree there mayte.. I didn’t compare Bowie to Saville xThey were cancelled because they were serial sex offenders. Comparing bowie to a monster like saville is beyond preposterous
I know you didnt but the poster banging on about cancel culture didBarking up the wrong tree there mayte.. I didn’t compare Bowie to Saville x
“Dana Gillespie claimed that she had sex with Bowie when she was 14 and he was 17, after meeting him when he performed at the Marquee in Soho in 1964”I know you didnt but the poster banging on about cancel culture did
There's probably hope for him as there's plenty of nutters out there. My brother in law spent a large amount on one of his massive paintings - probably worth next to nothing these days
Didn’t compare him to Saville. But newy (or was it someone else) mentioned Bill Wyman who we know had sex with underage girls (or children as they are otherwise known). Lots of evidence to suggest Bowie did too. I notice you didn’t refute it about Jimmy Page, presume you’re not as big a fan of Led Zep, but this is exactly how “cancel culture” seems to work. People are more likely to protect the legacies of artists they like, hence why Michael Jackson is still played on the radio daily, since he is probably the most famous musician of the 20th century. Some are untouchable, and it seems to correlate to the quality and popularly of their art. They were cancelled because they were serial sex offenders. Comparing bowie to a monster like saville is beyond preposterous
My better half worked at Stoke Mandaville before we came over here, was there for 4 years.‘Cancelled’ - crazy how this word has just crept in. Cancel culture gone mad.
