Berwick Hills

This is what Tory Britain looks like and it’s hit Teesside hard, cutting resources to the bone so authorities can’t function properly. Change will come from the ballot box, vote Tory and you are voting for anarchy.

Whilst I follow your sentiments on the cuts, you cannot get away from the fact that this has everything to do with a lack of parental control first and foremost.

As a father of two lads, they are both of the understanding that that they would need to fear my wrath more than anything the police could hand them if they were to ever step out of line... thankfully I have brought them up correctly so that will never be an issue.

As we see constantly though not every parent does right by their child, those that do need protecting and that’s where policing and other authorities come into it but the Tories have cut them to the bone. We won’t get a hold of the situation in this country whilst this shambles of a government are in the chair.

I agree about support if they are evicted. Eviction also likely means intentional homelessness so whilst advice and assistance would be given by the local authority, direct provision would unlikely be in social housing, but could be if part of package of aftercare. Families could be supported in different localities subject to terms that place duty on youths and parents as a package, ABA’s and ABC’s and the like also reasonable terms to new tenancies.

This pepper potting of families breaks up youths from easily meeting up, there are powers but carrot and stick need to work in tandem so parents and youths have incentives as well as threats of further punitive measures. Resources needed for ongoing support and regular interaction and engagement by all interested parties including the families to achieve realistic buy in.
I believe eviction counts as unintentional doesn't it as citizens advice always tell people to wait until eviction rather than leaving?

Absutely not, unless it is S21 from private lets no fault type. CAB say that as local authorities wont provide 28 day min temp housing beforehand usually.

I'd let my kids walk most streets of Boro, go to most shops around the town - day or night - but i would not let them go anywhere near Norfolk shops whatsoever. The place is overrun with little ****. who take great pleasure on intimidating others for social media videos. They'll pick on the wrong kid one day, and that kid will belong to some lunatic who will retaliate and it'll get nasty.

Inadequate parenting is the biggest problem and all the resources in the world won’t change it. Until that changes nothing else will including feral behaviour.
Resources do change it though!

Why is there inadequate parenting? Once we agree on that, we can then with the correct resources change these young peoples lives, and ultimately change all our lives for the better.
Oh and it will mostly work out cheaper for us all.

Under the tories they have stripped back resources to a number where ASB can flourish and not be dealt with in the correct manner. We need to fund our resources correctly in order to tackle the issue.

Incredible. Spent so many days there at Berwick hills baths; great memories and learnt to swim there. Dived off that top board a few times (when they’d open it!) and never seen anything like that Jesus!
Nostalgic memories!
It was never confirmed whether or not the victim completed his dive!

Yes, and the fact he just doesn't care, he pretends he cares, but if you stand next to him for 5 seconds, like I and many others have, he stinks of not caring.
Can't say fairer than that. Spoke to the bloke once, asked for help but genuinely couldn't care less

Inadequate parenting, social media and almost a gang culture whereby kids are doing things and recording it to show their peers for approval.

I'd like to echo @Acklam_Lad. I have 3 boys, 2 of them are old enough to go out and mess about, take a ball out at dinnertime and come back for their tea and i trust them. They know that if they're caught on facebook doing something stupid, if someone i know texts me to tell me they've seen my kids doing something they shouldn't or if the police were to bring them home then my god they know their punishment from me is far worse than anything else they would face from anyone else and they know that while they stay on the straight and narrow, they live what i think is a happy, decent life. Its that mix of fear and respect that my kids have, that others don't.

What sensible parents let their kids run wild hanging around places they don’t need to be and get arrested?.Too many parents think it’s the states responsibility to parent their children not them. are kids wearing balaclavas and attacking people with sticks because there are no Youth clubs, I think not.

You are correct on the poor parenting front, It isn’t just any one reason though it is a multitude of factors, you are correct in poor parenting but funding resources, education are also key to resolving these issues.

I grew up in Grangetown, and we had absolutely **** all. Surrounded by poverty, lack of resources, crime, drugs, etc etc.

Myself and my sister had no more than a phone call home from school. Never in bother with the police, never anti-social, respected people...

The reason we were like this is because it's how we were taught to be, how we were raised by our mam.

Good and proper parenting is what's required. In large (food and shelter aside) it costs nothing.

The little ***** are a representative of their parents. They'll soon know about it when they mouth off or abuse someone and get a good hiding.

Spot on.
I'm getting a little sick of excuses been made for these little scrotes and their parents.
"Waaaa no youth clubs"
"Waaa we are poor so can't afford to discipline our children"
"Waaaa they haven't got a gather figure in their lives because of 'reasons'.

As similar to you Carrick, I wasn't well off but wasn't poor either growing up but was absolutely terrified of doing anything that would get me into trouble with my parents.

I have worked with these types of kids in East Cleveland and throwing the book at them won't help. The kids aren't the problem but the parents are and the lack of parenting skills. The government needs to be investing heavily in Sure Start programmes (or something similar) to give these communities a chance of thriving and the support the parents need. Giving the kids a criminal record just blights their chances later in life and the cycle continues.

If I was part of the council I would be looking at outreach youth workers being based around the shops and engaging the kids in some kind of activity - Does the council still have access to the youth service bus?

If we go down the route that Coluka suggests, and I have been part of in the past, it is no good just moving them on without putting in support in place otherwise we are passing the problem on to some other area.

This problem is all down to cuts after cuts that the government has placed on our local councils. Everything I have mentioned was in place in the past.
Apologies because I know this is a serious topic but when you start with “I’ve worked with these types of kids” just took me back to this brilliant sketch from 1979 and NTNON
