Mr Preston is standing again!

To be clear Chris Cooke is everything that Andy Preston isn’t.

He’s honest
He cares about the people of our town
He lives in the town

He’s happy to set agendas and let the experts do their jobs.
He wants much more openness in the council, it’s currently like a secret society.

A little about him..

He has a degree in IT, and worked n schools for a number of years, he then moved to the third sector where he helps run a charity in Middlesbrough. I’m sure Chris will have lots to say in the next few weeks.

what did he work as in the schools?

What does it matter how much money he has and what house he lives in?

Steve Gibson doesn't live in Middlesbrough... 🤷🏻‍♂️
To the best of my knowledge none of the current first team squad live in Middlesbrough either.

Ridiculous comparison.

But then I’d expect nothing else coming from you 👍

Well, it wasn’t.

People of influence don’t need to live in the town across all sectors and areas.

The Mayor should however have an understanding of what life is like for residents.

Preston does not.
So why the multi millionaire, grade two listed home comment?

I'm sure Joe Biden, the most powerful man in the world, has an understanding of what life is like for the residents of say, California, but he doesn't live there. For example.

As already mentioned, if people vote him in again then they will have their own reasons, some they'll keep to themselves and some will openly talk about it. Nobody in Middlesbrough will have a gun pointed at their heads forcing them to vote for him.

Man gets public servant mixed up with a sportsman. I actually hope you are trolling here, because you're smart enough to realise the difference.

Trolling? No. A loose comparison. As mentioned previously I've no skin in the game, I don't live in the town, the same as I'd hazard a guess a third of the posters that use this board. I just found it a bit silly that one of the things aimed at Preston was that he doesn't live in the town so isn't fit to be mayor.

Gibson's gaff is a superb piece of real estate mind.

I think if you are a multi millionaire and you have a conflict of interest, then it does matter and bring into question why you are becoming mayor.

In the same vein someone like Rishi Sunak is putting himself in the position or prime minister with the amount of money, why would he put himself in that position of power

Not a clue. Think he was involved in commercial property wasn’t he??

Obviously been very profitable for him, anyway.

Good to have a successful businessman like that running the town. Someone who understands how the wheels of industry turn and what it takes to get projects off the ground
Yes, I guess being a mayor does help "grease the wheels" if you're struggling with red tape in your quest to make money for yourself
