There's plenty of born and bred Teessiders scamming people and thieving but we're not all labelled for it.Some of itay not be government related at all. Could be from personal experiences etc.
My nanna never trusted gypsies or liked them after a gang of them tried to scam her out of £10,000 for roof work that hadn't been done. She very nearly paid until my uncle got wind of it and him, me and my dad rocked up the day they were coming for collection and when we were sat in her front garden waiting for them they asked if she was in, words were exchange and they never came back.
Now that's not to say ALL gypsies are like that because they aren't. I worked with one many years ago labouring and him and his family were sound.
Yes because only a select few on here are allowed personal attacks.
Spot on Nano.We have a chronic shortage of people desperate enough to do terrible jobs for a pittance. The wages need increasing to attract people to the job, not importing people to do them for a pittance and perpetuating the problem.
All that is irrelevant though because asylum seekers are not economic migrants. That is a completely different category of people and we already have processes in place to decide what skills we need.
That is both lazy and insulting Brian. Many who voted Brexit are not racists, but did see Freedom if Movement as a method of exploiting the poorest in society in all countries. Simple supply and demand to feed the capitalist mouths. Jeremy Corbyn understood this, hence his stance.Did you vote for Brexit?
Yeah I get that. And if we are honest we all prejudice our thoughts based on experience. I think it's the blanket calling everyone seeking asylum a burden. And when Wez makes assumptions about the scale of asylum seekers and I correct him with official figures it's what drives him to simply ignore the figures because they don't match his opinion. I bet of we ask him now he'll think the majority of asylum seekers come to this country. When that demonstrably isn't the case. Not by a long way. Why would we retain our prejudices once they have been disprovenSome of itay not be government related at all. Could be from personal experiences etc.

Not disagreeing there. As I said, merely an example of maybes a reason why some may not like it.There's plenty of born and bred Teessiders scamming people and thieving but we're not all labelled for it.
Every community across the globe has problem characters. Why should people expect migrants to be any different to us?Not disagreeing there. As I said, merely an example of maybes a reason why some may not like it.
You’re completely right, I would like to apologise, it was unbecoming of me.That is both lazy and insulting Brian. Many who voted Brexit are not racists, but did see Freedom if Movement as a method of exploiting the poorest in society in all countries. Simple supply and demand to feed the capitalist mouths. Problem is, the people on this thread who throw the insults and labeling are the ones who say they get bulliedThat's just the internet today. Grey areas don't seem to exist anymore. Everything has to be polarised. You have to pick a side and be either for or against. Everyone else is wrong and then you throw an insult. All the people on one side cheer, the other side throw some insults back, everyone claims they are being bullied. One side wins and the other gets "cancelled".
Problem is, the people on this thread who throw the insults and labeling are the ones who say they get bullied
Mate. I haven't called you a racist. I know @Laughing implied that evasue he also WANTS to think ill of me for some reason.Problem is, the people on this thread who throw the insults and labeling are the ones who say they get bullied
"Hostile environment" and the most overt racist British Government since Thatcher. The frustrating thing about this thread is that there's a consensus that everybody wants those with a legitimate asylum claim to be allowed to stay in this country and that those who do not have a legitimate claim should not be allowed to stay.
That should not be lost as part of this discussion, my contention, is that nothing in Government policy achieves either of those aims and the current tone of policy will exacerbate and not resolve the problem.
Every issue surrounding the current asylum debate has been allowed to happen in Westminster either through incompetence or design and any animosity and frustration should be in their direction and not toward those forced onto boats as their only means to claim legitimate asylum.
Cheers big. ExactlyI take no real issue with the use of the word burden here, if the people housed there are going to be utilising already stretched and underfunded services then the addition of more people to the population who haven't got housing or jobs and may be in poor health will burden local services.
The individuals themselves aren't burdens, the strain that having a large amount of people placed somewhere as mentioned above, is.
This from someone who finds the 'Stop The Boats' slogan and the support it has gotten from some quarters as one of the clearest indicators of neo fascism from government in post war history.
I think it was a use of language to describe the potential impact on the area, not an insult to those seeking asylum.
Maybe duty would have been a better word? It certainly didn't look like a buying into the government's rhetoric at first glance.
I agree with most of this but I think the burden bit was the thing end of the wedge. Fuzz's use of the word illegal was significantly more troubling.I take no real issue with the use of the word burden here, if the people housed there are going to be utilising already stretched and underfunded services then the addition of more people to the population who haven't got housing or jobs and may be in poor health will burden local services.

You said I used racist language. Sherlock and bri mar wood called me racist.Mate. I haven't called you a racist. I know @Laughing implied that evasue he also WANTS to think ill of me for some reason.
I'm trying to find out what motivates you to have such hate in your heart though. Why you happily use words like burden and illegal to describe people fleeing persecution. I've even asked you questions to try and understand your point of view but you can't answer them.
