Carrick's "Managing your emotions" comment

I couldn't help but wonder whether he was referring to the fans who were becoming frustrated at times, especially towards the end of the game when we were still trying to play it out from the back and I think the fans were calling for a bit more urgency from the team.
That exactly what he was referring to.

To be fair I agree with him.

Carrick was massively frustrated with Steffen dallying in the last few minutes. He was waving wildly forward and shouting at Steffen to hurry the **** up.
I don’t think Carrick was commenting on the supporters at all.
The team had a real off night, but didn’t lose.
47 points from 63 is the big picture.

I think it was aimed at everyone, players and fans. There were times where the players were trying too hard to get things going and they looked a bit frantic on a few occasions, almost desperate in a few passages of play. Carrick made a few 'calm down' gestures from the touchline to the team in the second half.

Then the crowd also transmitted their frustration at times when the team were trying to follow Carrick's instructions and slow it down. I think he wanted us to just enjoy a bit of possession and take the sting out of the game a bit, but it got to sections of the crowd.

So I think Carrick was making the point to everyone about managing their enotions and who better to make the point than a man who has his own emotions moving exactly as he wants at all times like a puppet on a string. Zen like calmness and knowing what the next step should be. I imagine he'd be unflappable even in a crisis, **** Bruce Willis you'd want Michael Carrick on the inside planning a way forward if you were trapped by terrorists in Nakatomi Plaza.
Michael Carrick’s king fu is strong.. but he’s not taking on a office block full of terrorists on New Year’s Eve just yet.

Neil Warnock with have a field day with us if Carrick doesn’t take his socks off and get a bit of blood and oil on his vest.

Welcome the party pal!

Players looked leggy and tired in 2nd half. , probs frustrated the usual performance/display wasnt happening. Think carrick alluded to this saying players were amoyed and shouldnt be too harsh on themselves. Obvs hoping sheff utd lose tomorrow and we win saturday going into international break 2nd on GD. Not a bad position to be in. Then we go for the jugular after a refresh.

Agreed - A big horrible ugly, dirty team like Stoke, needed a big physical presence to give them a bit back and rough them up a bit.

The likes of Ramsey, McGree, Archer and to a lesser extent Akpom were getting kicked and shoved all over the shop. Crooksy would have bounced off a few of their lads I feel.
McGree reverted back to the McGree of old unfortunately last night, he was getting knocked off the ball with ease. Ramsey was also made to look very lightweight.

One thing which did frustrate me a bit about Ramsey was he seemed to want the ball to be played to his feet a lot, but then he was getting knocked off it. I think we could have hurt Stoke more if he'd looked to make more runs in behind.

A point saved is better than getting beat.
Only our second draw since November 2022.
We will all calm down until tomorrow night.
Then we can blow a gaskett and all become Deck-Chairs fans for 90 minutes.

It’ll be a good point if Sheff utd lose against Sunderland. However if they get a win or even draw, we’ll all be disappointed. That’s the way it goes!

I feel like the fans got unjustly frustrated with the lads.
It wasn't going our way but every game we're not going to blow teams out of the water.
We battled and we scrapped against a dogged outfit who are in form (They slapped 2 promotion rivals just last week) and earned ourselves a point.
If Sunderland can win tomorrow, all of a sudden it looks like a very, very good point.
We've gained a point on Sheffield United, now we await tomorrow.

Tonight I felt Mcgree looked a little slower than normal, not sure if he just felt leggy or not but he wasn't as quick as he usually is

Oddly a few of our players looked leggy, although I'm not sure if it was actually just down to the way Stoke set up.

They went man to man and just didn't give us any time on the ball. We haven't been used to that in recent games at the Riverside.

Although I couldn't be there the match was always going to be a difficult one. Stoke are on a good run and full of confidence. It's these types of games where a team serious about promotion has to get something from and that happened.

It'll look even better once Sunderland beat Sheffield United by three goals tonight.

Yes, definitely aimed at the fans, don’t know why though.

There was lots of encouragement from the stands and any disgruntled groans or noises of uncomfort from the terraces were after badly misplaced passes or being caught in possession (surely he doesn’t expect that to be cheered or applauded?), dillydallying with the ball or from a lack of urgency with minutes to go when our players were just stood still or walking showing no real desire to get a winner (even he himself was going wild at Steffen and Lenihan when they were stood stationary with the ball in our box with seconds to go).

Can’t win every week and play well every single game, but the crowd are desperate for us to reach our goal and aim and we’re at the business end of the season where dropped points are huge, almost at the point where they can be fatal to the campaign.

Theres more of a need to beat Burnley at home now. A big 2 points dropped last night

Exactly. Dropped points are huge at this stage, it’s more about the 3 points than performances. Desperate for wins.

Before yesterday we were looking at needing 7-8 wins from 10 to get up to where we’ll need to be. That’s now a game less, so as you say there’s more of a need to beat Burnley and win at Luton.

I was disappointed with the draw, not on the balance of play, but the occasion overall. Difficult to walk away overjoyed at drawing at home to a mid table team when you’re staring down the home straight of an automatic promotion race.

Definitely a message to the fans - he is right as well. As Steve McClaren once said 'some fans need educating'!
We didn’t take our chances and fortunately steffen saved us in the 2nd half !
Stoke are a good team and had an advantage over us playing Friday at home.
Good point in the end
