šŸ™Cut your energy bills nearly in half with Octopus Tracker

Have you asked for one? They are pretty quick with fitting one if you want one
Yes - I have been given August 18th so I will have to wait a few weeks. Not a problem and thanks again for the link.

first post in the thread has been updated with step by step instructions relevant since the removal of the waiting list and details of android app for tracking prices

After a bit of advice. I'm currently with British Gas and keen to change to Octopus, I've only been with British Gas. What happens with any credit built up if I decide to leave? Will they pay me this on closure of account?

You'll receive a final bill and credit will be refunded to you after that but that process is done by a third party, and can take up to 6 weeks. Ultimately you will get the credit back always unless final bill says you owe BG money. It's just not mega quick.

Tons of info in first post, or just use this;

Use this link to sign up to Octopus - https://share.octopus.energy/azure-thyme-228

But ignore the amount they quote you and DD amount as it'll be diffent on tracker - initially it will seem high as you're joining on the standard tariff. Once live you ask to be moved over

Thank you very much, the standard tariff is still Ā£70 a month cheaper than what I'm currently paying although my BG bills haven't changed yet to reflect the lower price cap so all good.

Noticed im being offered a fixed rate deal by Shell energy now ?
What is the unit rates? Can almost guarantee it won't be cheaper than octopus but if it gives you peace of mind it can be an option.

Octopus today is 18.2p elec 3.8p gas which is quite high for them. You use thousands of units of each a year so a few pence difference adds up to a lot!

Electricity 28.622p per kWh, Standing charge 64.93p per day
Gas 7.649p per kWh Standing charge 19.61p per day

Not great electricity is slightly lower than what im paying on flexible and Gas slightly higher.

Just got a quote off Octopus the same rates as Shell energy to the penny ?
Because it's the same tariff mate

Use the link on page 1, you join octopus in the standard tariff - once you join them you ask to join tracker and that's how you get the lower rates. Read all post in the first post in this thread though to make sure you know how it works etc but on average you'll save 30-40% vs standard rate, plus they'll give you Ā£50 credit for using the referral link.

Rates fluctuate but since December been cheaper than the price cap so all through winter... you can come off or any time, it is honestly a. I brainer

You do need a smart meter, they'll fit one if you haven't got one.

The fixed tariffs are a con by all the energy retailers.

I expect the only reason Octopus offer a fixed tariff is to get people away from the companies which are robbing them, so they can hopefully show them the light of the various smart tariffs, which will benefit them and Octopus then benefit as the new people spread the word further.

I'm with Octopus and wish I'd have read this thread when it was first posted. Could've saved a lot of money. I've booked my smart meter installation for next week. Can you move to the tracker tariff as soon as it's installed or is there a waiting period?

No waiting period anymore so you can move as soon as you get your meter online

Twitter fastest way

One thing you can do, as an existing octopus customer, is tell them you were referred by a friend and still get the Ā£50 referral (unless you had one already). I'm really surprised they allow this but did it for a few people earlier in the thread and they did manually apply it, even though as a customer I would have joined after them šŸ˜‚

Just an observation FragranceGuy, the OP has the link for the Ā£50 referral but it doesn't actually say that you, yourself get Ā£50 referral also.

I know you have done a lot of work on this thread and saved loads of people a hell of a lot of money, myself included, but just thought you should be clearer.

My 2 year tariff is expiring soon. Octopus sent an email a few days ago offering two tariffs I can switch to: 'Flexible Octopus' or 'Loyal Octopus 12M Fixed'. Both have almost the same costs though the 'flexible' one will no doubt increase in winter. No offer of the tracker given though and it's not available on their site when I am logged in so clearly they only want to get newbies onto it.

You have to ask to go on the tracker, just tweet them
