Your favourite voice in music.

Another vote for Layne Staley. Most know his work with Alice in Chains but his vocals on the Mad Season side project were stunning. Eddie Vedder is a long time favourite but even as a die-hard fan, i'll admit his voice isn't what it was.

Female voices off the top of my head I would say Cat Power, Lucy Wainwright Roche and the incredible Webb Sisters.

Too many but just picking some out...

Female - Karen Carpenter, Hope Sandoval, Lana Del Rey, Bjork - recently Katherine Priddy has made a big impression - old school like Billie Holiday and Nina Simone.

Male - Thom Yorke, Eddie Vedder, Layne Stayley, Bowie and for the male old school Frank Sinatra, Sam Cooke, Nat King Cole and Scott Walker.

Rhiannon Giddens of Crolina Chocolate Drops has been a favourite for a few years too. I'm looking forward to hearing her Scots Gaelic stuff later this year, or into next.

wow, way too many, but if I had to pick I'd say Hope Sandoval, or Sinead O'Connor, or Dusty Springfield, or Joni Mitchell or, Lucinda Williams, and that's just some of the women . . . sorry just too many to choose from

Some of you b*ggers need to back off and keep your distance from Hope Sandoval. I've been planning on marrying her since around 1990. Just haven't got around to it yet. Bum faced blokes are ferocious fighters. Stay away from my future bride or there WILL be trouble.

As the great Foghorn Leghorn would say in situations like this Bumface, put em up, put em up!!!

At the risk of a bumming, I'm a huge Hope Sandoval admirer too.
I'd say all my favourite vocalists are women actually, probably too many to list.

Johnny Cash for me, his voice actually got better as he got older in my opinion. His performances on Hurt, The Beast in me and Gods going to cut you down are sensational.

Our very own Paul Rodgers is right up there with the best and I always admire the range of Robert Plant in the Led Zeppelin days
