Your favourite players when you were a kid

Big John and Graeme Souness (Obviously)

From other teams:

Frank Worthington- Oozed style
Stan Bowles
Malcolm MacDonald
Billy Bonds
Allan Clarke

I would also have loved to have seen Denis Law, and Jimmy Greaves at their peak.

Juninho, Rav, Emerson. As much based on the paper mache giant head mascots as their footballing ability at the time.

I remember also being a bit blown away that there were two siblings playing for Man Utd. Not sure why now exactly.

Away from Boro I was obsessed with ZICO as a kid and all things Brazil really and that love of Brazil remains to this day.

So when we signed Juno it was my two big Football loves coming together.

I remember I had to order my Brazil shirt from jack hatfields ( This was before We signed Juno) after then well it was a diff story.

still keep my eye on the selecao.

Big John, Willie Maddren and for some reason, Steve Heighway from Liverpool. Think it was the mazy runs on the wing, never knowing if he was going to take it to the byline or cut inside.

Curtis Fleming. I styled my play on him. I got the passing and attacking flare right. Was just a little behind on the defensive side of things!
Steve Pears. Because of course . Can’t remember the season now but one year the entire squad voted for him for players player of the year. Ian Baird came second I believe, as Pears couldn’t vote for himself

Ahhhhhhh, but could you perfect the trademark Fleming hand gesture? Everything from 'I'm sorry for screwing up" to "great pass" and everything in between summed up with a stoic raise of a palmed hand. Seem to remember a cartoon in fmttm back in the day blatantly mocking this trait - 'Five hot dogs please!'

Can't believe we've got this far into into this thread and no one has yet mentioned Maradona. Absolute genius and someone I can never tire of watching, love those clips on you tube of him doing keepie-uppies with a golf ball or the one where he does the same with his chewing gum that he then clips back into his mouth.

A massively flawed character but what a footballer, always number one for me over Pele but that's probably because I was 8 when Mexico '86 was on tv. I was so into football at that time and he made everything look effortless, I can even forgive him 'that' goal for the genius of his second one.

From a Boro point of view Rippers all day long. One of my favourite ever goals is his one V Peterborough in the League Cup Quarter Final. I was right behind it (in the North behind Rippers rather than the goal) and it was in the moment it left his foot. Can still see it from that perspective if I close my eyes!

Skin him Rippers! Go on! Love it!

Might sound boring but the iconic Charlton champions every one of them I idolised them all (and it has to be Spraggon over the brilliant Cooper simply because Frank was there and played his part

always Terry Cochrane for me . I didn't even have a favourite England player. Spike was second

I remember years ago I was sat in the East End seats, and Rippers went on one of his runs down the right towards us, got to the edge of the box, tackled and fell over. Of course we were all stood up, as you did when Rippers got going, but he fell on his arris and sat there while the defender took the ball away and on the attack.
Not realising I was the only one still standing, and it had gone quiet, I shouted ' Get up of your ar*e and tackle back rippers'. Everybody heard, he looked up at me, and I though oh sh*t, but he got up and ran like the clappers back.

In all honesty Peter Lorimer, Allan Clarke, Frank Worthington, Johan Cruyff at Ajax (bought an Ajax shirt out of paper round money) and Jairzinho cos he scored in every match in the 70 World Cup.
Saw the light re Leeds and moved on with my hero Souness, but it will always be a stain on me as my two lads constantly and rightly remind me.
