Your 1st Boro Defeat.

Ipswich at home in 1976, remember the Match of The Day cameras were there as it was a top of the table clash. Lost 2-0, never liked Ipswich after that, particularly when most loved them in the early 80s!

First game I ever went to, Ayresome Park got beat by Liverpool 0-1

Totally gutted was an understatement, devastated that we didn't score even a single goal

But then I was about 10 I think. Still, it set me straight about being a Boro fan

I remember the first game I went to ( a draw) but cant recall watching us lose for the first time. That is because

a) Have seen us lose so many times and tend to block them from my memory or

B) I am an old b***r and cant remember that far back

Bit of both.

From memory of attending games as a young 7 year old with my dad, I believe it was this one, and looking at the crowd, there wasnt too many of us there, although that was at a time you could get a ‘squeeze’ to get into the Holgate.

That game was at the end of one of the most unmemorable seasons I can recall. Avoided relegation with a good win at Grimsby 3-0 the week or so before and that Cambridge game was a dead match. Malcolm Allison as manager.

65/66 season, v Man C, 1-3.

Later on that season we got stuffed away to Bolton in a midweek match, and the result being read out at the the end of News at Ten... Bolton 6 Middlesbrough 0, I felt so ashamed that it was being broadcast nationally! Always disliked BW since then!

I remember that Grimsby game well - I don't remember the Cambridge game at all.
