Apologies if this has been done before but when did you suffer your 1st defeat as a boro supporter?
Mine was on April 15th 1967 v Walsall at Ayresome. A 2-0 defeat in front of 18090 supporters. I remember being a devastated
10 year old, little knowing that there were to be so many other disappointments ahead of me! Wouldn't have it any other way
mind, its fantastic being a Boro supporter. UTMB(y)

Mine was the same, and it wouldn't surprise me if it is for others. It was one of those seasons where people started going, or started going again more often. We'd started the season badly but picked up after Christmas to mount a promotion challenge. This was our first home defeat since November. I'd been to a couple of games before 66-7 but not seen a defeat. Walsall was my first.

Yeh, my 1st match was v Darlo on 27th December 1966, a 4-0 win. I thought all our games were going to end like that!!

We were beaten by Newcastle 2-0 on Boxing Day 1964. There were 38,194 in the ground that day, thousands of Geordies. Went with my dad and his mates so I was sat on various blokes shoulders at the back of the Bob end. Outside the ground was very busy, u was bought a Boro rosette which I had for years. With the inscription 'ha'way the lads' on it.

It was pre-segregation days and there wasn't singing from what I can remember but a fantastic buzz about the place.

The day after we played up there and lost 2-1.

Boro 2 Blackburn Rovers 3 12th April 1958 crowd 31 thousand
Clough 2
He only got 42 goals that season but we let them in faster than he could score them
He scored 40+ goals for 5 seasons in a row
Next match 26 April
Boro 1 West Ham 3

Blackburn and West Ham got promoted that season Boro 7th 11pts adrift

I remember us losing 1-0 at home think to Preston early 71 but I cant be certain, so the 1st game I can still remember going to when we lost was the tuesday afternoon kickoff at home to Man Utd Feb 1972 when we lost 3-0, miners trike, power cuts etc

The day after I was born, 15th october 1960, we beat Norwich at home 2-0 with Clough & Henderson scoring, 1st away game after I was born, I was 7 days old, a 6-6 draw at Charlton & 1st defeat after I was born, just over a month, a 6-1 thrashing at Luton

Like E74 the Preston 1-0 defeat in 1971/2 - I was taken out of a wedding reception to catch the game by two uncles and another uncle got us through the traffic in his panda car!

I honestly don’t remember. I remember my first game, fortunately a win against York.
First game I really remember shocking me at our defeat was the play off loss at Notts County early 90’s.

I always struggle with this. I started going regularly from 73/74 but I went to some games occasionally before that, when my dad was free to drive up, often to cup games. I can’t work out which was my absolute first ever game at Ayresome. I believe it was Carlisle but I can’t remember when or even what the score was. I flip flop between Boxing day defeat in 1969 or the wins in August 68 and 70. I tend to think I was cold, so guessing it was the boxing day defeat. I do keep changing my mind though. Funny, in all the years since, I never thought to ask him and its too late now.

Small consolation I know but that defeat still gets talked about now due to the circumstances it was played in!

Boro v Spurs, 1995. Also the first league defeat at the Riverside.

Just looked at the results for that season and we only lost that one home game before Christmas.

I'm not entirely sure. I remember wins against Portsmouth and Oldham in 89/90 and I also remember going to see us play Blackburn Rovers and Brighton around this time. There is a home defeat to Blackburn in Dec 1990 so it might be that.
