Young lad missing in Tenerife

People donate to a cause or situation if they want to.

I don't know the full facts of what he was previously involved in, only what I have read, not clear how involved he actually was in what happened. Apparently the young man who was assaulted hoped he was found safe and well.

I've seen rumours about the Rolex watch, I don't know if that true or not. But either way a young man has lost his life and his family are grieving, if the young man who was assaulted can show some dignity, then why can't people on here?

I'd suggest grifting and profiteering from your son's death is pretty undignified.

I suggest they have no control over how much or little is given, they never set it up either, how do.people know what the plans are for anything that is left after costs and expenses are paid.

Only today his mother released a statement urging people to continue donating

Naive in the extreme.
It doesn't effect me in the slightest, I've not donated, i just feel its distasteful and sad all the social media none sense that went on , alot of it made up and people relaying false information and the jokes being made. Unfortunately that's the world we live in, I hope the family can grieve and if people want to help them out or not that's up to them, they can see how much has been raised when they choose to donate.

I don't know what her motive and needs are, but can decide whether they donate or not, I just think people can show a little more dignity after the loss of a life regardless of what is being portrayed.

Dignity? Does that not include his mother then, cashing in like this? Christ you have something of a blind spot over this I think

It does, and I might have a blind spot but I have no idea what they will do with any surplus money, maybe she will spend it or waste it, then again she might set up a trust fund for other young people who go missing, or make a donate to a rescue organisation, or a missing person's one or something else. I don't know and I won't make assumptions either especially at this time.

You say she’s cashing in but what evidence do you have to support that? You don’t know what the money has been used for or what’s left if anything so it’s speculation. It might have been used up paying for her and others to stay on the island and for search teams. Repatriation won’t be cheap and the funeral won’t be either. Nobody is being forced to contribute.

Such a shame that plenty of “deserved” gofundme campaigns don’t get the publicity they deserve. If the mother had any form of decency, she would have come out and thanked everyone for the donations, explained what had been spent and announced the remaining fee would go to a charity. Not ask people to keep donating!

What happened to people paying for funerals themselves?
It’s not a new thing. Funerals are an often unexpected expense. I’m from a pretty poor area and I remember as a kid in the 80’s and 90’s, people doing whip arounds at the social club to help with a member’s funeral costs. It wasn’t uncommon for someone in the family to collect a few quid from each adult to drop off at a neighbour’s house.
