YouGov Poll - 33 Point lead!

The Tories are haemorrhageing support at the moment and sinking further and further into the abyss. I wonder whether Sunak will be under pressure to call the GE in May from his own party purely to make it as 'least bad' as possible. They're going to get battered regardless but it seems the longer they hold on the worse it'll get for them.

The only thing pointing to a may election for me is Sunak's not wishing to be deposed after a bad set of local election results. He'll have people around him telling him to wait for the autumn, but he knows the knives will be out in the summer. He'll want to avoid the fate of IDS: being ignominiously removed before he got to fight an election.

Mordaunt watch at PMQ’s is interesting, a very detached vibe. Do you get the feeling the “Swordbearer” is plotting to wield its mighty length?

There's a minimum time of 25 working days to call a General Election. May 2 is local election day. There won't be two sets of elections in May, so - if there is to be a GE - it will be called in the next 10 days.

I don't see anything to suggest an election is about to be called.

More likely to be Oct, Nov or Jan.

Yep, it looks increasingly unlikely he'll go for May but if they get hammered in the local elections it's going to be a very awkward and uncomfortable few months for him till the autumn (if he's not deposed).

Think I'd go for May if I was him. Mind, I'm not sure if he's even really calling the shots. Probably too much of a fanny to go against the rest of the cabinet if they're against it.

The recall petition in Scott Benton's constituency of Blackpool South opens on March 12th and closes on April 22nd. Too late for a by-election on May 2nd but it will happen soon after assuming the 10% trigger is met.
It'll be drip, drip, drip. Council elections on May 2nd followed by Blackpool South by-election.
