Yesterdays Tactics

I’ve criticised carrick for only having one style of play in the past especially around the way we played the 3 Coventry games but I have to give him credit yesterday for doing his homework on the opposition.

There was definite specific tactics employed for Leicester with man marking of their players (fry) and individuals playing different roles (howson as a third centre back at times, Jones as a second full back) which I haven’t seen before as part of the gamepl set up.

Well done MC!

Agree the tactics were very good and worked a treat. Some excellent man marking jobs on Iheanacho by Fry and Howson on Dewsbury-Hall. Our work rate and closing down off the ball was largely first rate most of the time and when it wasn’t Dieng was there to be a rock.

It was a tactical masterclass, you have to say. Dare I say a sprinkling of genius from Carrick. The intelligent interchange of positions was really really impressive. Fry marking Ineacho out of the game, Jonny dropping in to make a 3 when he needed to and taking dewsbury-hall out and Jones defensive work. Excellent stuff.

It was brilliant from the coaches and players. Carrick backs the players to play a certain way and I suspect training is usually more about us and how we want to play. The prepared for a really good Leicester instead and the plan worked well.

If we can marry up and keep on improving our out of possession game and still keep our offensive shape and patterns of play, then that is a definite step forward. Easier said than done!

Carrick getting lots of plaudits, but a few of us yesterday felt that it was clear Woodgate had dusted down his Microsoft PowerPoint Slide Presentation Software and shown a detailed insight into how to get at the foxes from the off. Although, I have heard subsequently that Carrick did heavily influence the removal of the sections relating to the use of Beagles.

We were excellent out of possession yesterday. Thought we kept our shape well as soon as they had the ball, and everyone knew their role. Showed Carrick is learning and progressing. He’s going to be a great manager one day. I’m pretty sure he’ll end his managerial career with some silverware somewhere. Hopefully with us!
