Yes THAT Song has been re-released but.......

I love the original, I'm missing no point at all.

The meaning of a song doesn't stop it sounding ****.

If the original hadn't been catchy, it wouldn't have caught on.
Their lack of singing ability was outweighed by the lyrics and tune in the original.

With the novelty long since ground in to dust, and their voices even worse, I don't think that's true with a Christmas special remake.
If the original hadn't been catchy, it wouldn't have caught on.

Erm, isn't that true of every popular song ever written?

Anyhow, I love it and like many others am now looking forward to Qatars one nil win on Sunday

Yes, obviously.

That's fine and I'm glad you love it, but if you hadn't enjoyed it, I wouldn't be saying it's because you're missing the point.

Listening again, I think it's specifically the fact that it's a Christmas song which irks me the most about it, not the voices.

Despite "getting" the fact it's largely a reference to the fact this World Cup is on in the Christmas period, it just makes it seem even more like a commercial cash grab.

It'll be the '98 version for me, I think, just for the opening, especially after the ending of the Euro 2020 final.
"No more years of hurt" doesn't really fit with the message, but I really like the start of that version.

"The crosses of St. George are flying all around me...
Gareth Southgate, the whole of England is with you...
Oh, it's saved!"

I don't think I'll be listening to it in the car.

But as a tongue in cheek, light hearted comedy sketch, it is fairly amusing to be fair.

TeaCider I apologise if I've offended you. I wasn't saying you've missed the point just as a blanket response to anyone not enjoying it - of course that's absolutely valid. I just think it's more about nostalgia, jokes and as you say a cash grab than Baddiel and Skinner's singing voices.

My wife and daughter loved it. It’s the first time ive seen them become interested in this years World Cup. Loved the Xmas pud in custard.
