You still heard his side of the story, did he take you through the comprehensive business case he presented to Gibson showing the benefits of investment and the ROI (I'm guessing the answer is no).
I too have heard that he runs the non-footballing side of the business in a very lean fashion, but it doesn't mean that it's incorrect - it's a decision he's taken, because he's empowered to take it, and has access to all the facts and figures as well as experience of running large organisations. My point remains, only those who know the inside workings of the club can make a call on whether something is right or wrong, and no throwaway comments or back of a napkin maths will convince me otherwise.
Show me a chairman / CEO who has never got an appointment wrong. Just because Gibson appointed someone you don't like, who was a very successful footballer, doesn't mean every decision he makes is wrong.
