Would you want to host a full major tournament in the UK

Firstly I’ll say I lived in Italy for a while and experienced plenty of terrible behaviour from fans there, having attended Serie A games in a few places , and I know it goes on in all countries but it seems we take it to another level. Seems like a lot of decent people had a bad experience at Wembley yesterday due to the behaviour of other “fans”, then you had large amounts of people storming past security, fighting, carnage in the streets.

I always wanted to see a World Cup here but now I just think we would utterly embarrass ourselves on the biggest scale possible. It’s a shame because it is a minority spoiling it for mostly decent people, but they do a hell of a job of it. We have every other country beat hands down in embarrassing and vile fans when it comes to behaviour, and that takes some doing considering how bad other places can be.

It’s only football fans too. London 2012 was brilliant, great mood all round. I think we would spoil a World Cup though.

I wouldn't want to see it in England. Those idiots are in a minority but there's still enough of them to cause chaos. A few on here didn't see the problem with booing anthems but it's all part of it.

As you mention it's only the football too. Most English people can attend a sporting event and not act like a d*ck.

There is too many d***heads in this country I’m afraid. Love the country and I love being English but there is a large proportion of ******* who claim to be England fans who spoil it for the rest.

The biggest issue with Britain is the amount of alcohol many consume. Fans usually start so early they are out of it before a ball is kicked. Then they start posting on social media things they would dare not post sober.

We see examples of it at some Boro away games too. I hate sitting on aisle seats because you get forever used as a handrail as people stumble up and down steps.

Five Live were discussing the Wembley behaviour last night during my drive home and my first thought was that it'll just replay on a loop for any country vying against us for a major tournament: "Can't even behave for their own team in their own capital in a final."

We spent ages harping on about the Russians prior to their WC but the general feedback in 2018 was of how cordial the hosts were and that the experience was not like a 1983 England version of Westworld. I don't know if we could stifle our idiots for long enough here, like distracting a dog with treats.

It's sad that England fans' best behaviour during a tournament in the last couple of decades was on the other side of the world in 2002: not affordable for the average fan but did seem to keep the lout element away. Football should be enjoyable and safe for all fans, not just those out of the cheap seats.

That's also a very good point. There was no need to start drinking as early as those in London did.

I think the biggest problem is the drinking only part of our culture. If people yesterday went for some lunch and a few afternoon drinks they wouldn't have been so hammered. It was the whole buy cheap from a Supermarket and drink senseless in the middle of London.

It in no way excuses the behaviour of the minority that shamed this country yesterday, and it would probably have happened on a smaller scale anyway, but it won't have helped that people had been cooped up for nearly a year with the pandemic when it comes to proper behaviour.

Cricket world Cup was superb. To think fans mix and sit with each other whilst boozing all day.

We can host a tournament. Just not football.
The rugby world cup in 2015 was superb.

The London 2012 Olympics were labelled the best ever by the IOC.

UKcan host tournaments probably better than anybody else but it gets spoilt if the guests to the party cant help themselves to ruin it.

We should never be allowed to host a football tournament again. Besides the physical violence how could it be possible to illegally enter our national stadium built to modern standards with modern security methods.....

I think they placed too much reliance on £10 an hour stewards, rather than police.

Not a chance they will touch us , & rightlly so , too many roided, coked, peed up merchants here . The only saving grace from losing the other night was they were all too out of it to go again .

FIFA, UEFA and the IOC are irredeemably corrupt. I wouldn't even enter their tournaments, let alone host them.
