Would a poor result against Rotherham

Leave Gibson with a very big decision to make going into the international break. International breaks are notorious for managers losing their jobs as it gives the chance for a new manager to get to work with his players and bed in. Can’t believe I’m even creating this thread but it’s mad how a few poor results can make you feel.

We really need to beat the millers.
We can’t afford another performance like that again

I think Wilder will be feeling let down by the club and let down by some of his players.
He won't resign unless he has another club already lined up.
He has got 20 months left on his contract. There is no way that he will walk away from that.
He will make Gibson pay him off if he wants him out - like anybody with a brain would.
The more we struggle, the fewer other opportunities he will get, the less likely he is to walk.

Bobby Kerr once told me that if a team are struggling on the pitch, you can be 100% sure they are struggling in the dressing room. Steve Gibson has relieved a manager of his duties when we were (joint) second in the table, so iIt wouldn't surprise me one bit if he sacked him.

Personally, I've never been thoroughly convinced by Wilder...there's something about him thats a bit, not unlikeable, ...but I just can't put my finger on it,... I just can't empathise or feel a connection with him.

It's those beady eyes.

As manager he’s part of the problem but look at it from his point of view. It’s damaging for his reputation so if it gets worse I could 50/50 see him walking as much as getting sacked.

Bear in mind this is a manager whose stock was very high, had succeeded everywhere he’s been and is linked with PL jobs.

One disastrous experience as manager can kill your career. Chris Hughton had a similar good reputation a few years ago, or McClaren before Newcastle (and England of course!) Ambitious managers like this choose their clubs/projects really carefully because success for the club is success for them. He’s not like Steve Bruce who will go anywhere for a dollar.

Me, I think he’s been embarrassed by the recruitment and you sense he’s livid about it. Remember that quote where he said something like “We’re happy to go deep in the transfer window because we think something really good will come up at the end?”

My inkling is that assurances might have been made that weren’t kept, or we just didn’t get our targets in, which has left him well short in the squad, which means he feels let down and like he can’t do much with the squad he’s got. Maybe we didn’t spend early because they agreed a strategy of spending late, and at the end we did nothing. And suspect those negative vibes are transmitting to the players, because there’s been a sharp downturn in attitude since the window closed.

For Wilder this and any job is make or break. So if he asked for a table and was given two lamps from the unattached players jumble sale, I bet he’s embarrassed. Because sitting near the bottom of the Championship isn’t going to get you linked with a decent PL job.

I still can't think of anyone who's a 'better' manager but more so available. That said he needs to stop being stubborn and change his daft wide open formation. Only so many times you can blame players for not being good enough. So maybe change the formation to one that suits them 😂

On the subject of sacking or walking. I don't think we are at that stage yet even if we lose to Rotherham l. We are still amazingly 5 points off the playoffs. That said if he 'walks' then it will save us a few quid. No paying off the rest of his contract.

I’d be very surprised if he left. In fact it says more about the way some of our supporters behave online than it does anything else, when a few bad results bring about these hysterical overreactions and definitive judgements. Managers come in and explain what needs to be done, people are onboard, he gets a year into a massive rebuild and then people want to scrap it.

No patience or perspective. Any new manager would want to rebuild or reshape the squad, or have a big influence on how it looks. If it takes a while to come together and we lose a few games, what then? Scrap that as well?

I remember when people wanted Karanka out not that long after he replaced Mogga because we failed to score in about 7 games or something. And then they hammered him and Bausor and Gill in the summer of 2014, when we lost 2 of our first 3 home games and 3 of our first 5 overall.

People need to toughen up here IMO. It takes TIME to build a squad. Any manager does. You can’t write everything off after 9 games, it’s absolute madness. And one of the main reasons we’ve been treading water for years.

I hope this manager digs in and sticks around. His track record shows he is someone in it for the long haul. He’s been successful everywhere he’s been. Forget the Burnley stuff, it’s social media tittle-tattle based in the square root of nowt. Buckle up and get behind him. He will do what needs to be done IMO.

I agree Viv, to an extent anyway. He clearly is a good manager, because he showed that at Northampton and Sheff United. He also showed it when he first joined us almost a year ago, and we put in some really good performances. However, it isn't just a few bad results is it? It goes back the last 20 games. People keep saying something is not right at the club, but I'm not sure. We are on a terrible run and it needs to change ASAP, although I seem to be saying that before each game lately. I hope he turns it round because I'm not sure there's anyone else out there at the minute, it will cost us a fair bit if we do sack him, and we'll still be stuck with the same squad of players.

It's not just the manager who needs to dig in, but the players too. They are the ones out on the pitch making silly mistakes. Hopefully they've all had a clear the air in the last day or so and are ready to go again.

There's a saying that “If you keep doing the same things, you will keep getting the same results." Hopefully we will try something different against Rotherham, whether its changing personnel, formation, tactics, whatever. A good win and we'll all start feeling differently. Don't want to even think about getting beat!

I have never taken to him because he does seem just so in love with himself. He seems very arrogant.
Whether it is coincidence or not, something went bad when the Burnley speculation started. That was managed so badly by Wilder and the club.

Was there anything really in the Burnley speculation, other than chatter on social media after a bookie made him odds on, after a relatively large bet was placed on him?

I know for a fact Gibson bollocked him for his part in not shutting it down so I think there was definetly something in it. The source is as good as you can get, same source who told me about Watmores knee troubles in training before Wilder mentioned it in interviews.

Just my opinion but Saturday's game is potentially save your job level of a game. It is massive. 3 Points no matter what it takes please
