Worst Ever Boro 11 - We have our team!

Have to agree re Sean St Ledger (if only for sheer difference between expectation and reality - thought we were getting Alan Hanson and got Alan Bennett) and Phil Whelan, who was just awkward, slow and bad.

An honourable mention, however, for Alan ‘Does The Damage’ Ramage who, I fear, had he not been a local lad, would have roundly derided by all.

His pin-point targetting of row Z was legendary, To his credit, he did get ‘stuck in’ (usually about half a second too late) but his distribution consisted of hoofing the ball in the general direction of ‘up the air’ or ‘into the stands’, even if we had a 5 to 2 counter attack on.

Having been brought up on the likes of Maddren and Boam, Ramage was just too Sunday league for me. An ‘old fashioned’ defender, in the worst sense of that phrase.

Pipped to the post with a mention of Alan Damage (he was definitely better at cricket). Phil Whelan would be my partner of choice although I can remember being singularly unimpressed with Kevin Beattie when he signed for us too.

Phil Whelan.

I mean, only Boro could spend 7 mil on a champions league winning striker, 4.75 million on Brazils player of the year and starting number 10 and think big Phil would be good enough to stop them going in the other end!!! Truly dreadful.

Also a shout for Simon Coleman, always thought he was $hit and looked like he would blow over in a breeze!

As I said yesterday. George Kinnell. We signed him from Sunderland via Vancouver Royal Canadians (he should have stayed there!). Boxing day 1968 Derby v Boro, we were 1pt behind Derby in 2nd place. Boro played well and we're leading 2-1 at half time. Que George magnificent through ball for Derby's second then gives away penalty for the winner. 13 games for Boro 13 too many.
At least we fobbed him off to Juventus.

I tend to give a pass for local lads who have came in, grafted, but by and large been used as cheap squad filler.

There was a plethora of them who played at the end of them in the Southgate/Strachan/Mowbray era who could feature in this list but i feel that would be harsh .
Oh I get that, the problem with Hines though was, he was one of them players that when he was named in the team I used to dread it!
He's done pretty well for himself since he left though

Frazer Richardson is one i would rather forget, although i think he played more as a RB, AK binned him off pretty quickly when he took over.

He wasn't a central defender though was he?

I'm sure he played as either wing half or inside forward.

Controversial perhaps but I'm going with Alan Kernaghan.

Never looked like a footballer to me, very ungainly on the ball, slow and constantly berated and blamed team mates when mistakes were made.

Offloading him to Citeh was a quality bit of business.
