World Cup every two years?

It sounds preposterous, but we are heading for a meltdown, as we stand. Maybe a full scale club versus country war might help the game right itself. I doubt it though. Pound notes will rule ATEOTD

A ludicrous proposal particularly when we live in times when travelling the world is a major issue Of course the good of the game will not be part of any decision.

And how would such a thing work regarding qualification, or can we expect a ESL-style closed shop approach where national teams secure a place in the finals based on their perceived status? Sod that.
Competition formats aren't the biggest problem with football, and the changes the likes of UEFA and FIFA have made recently have not been well received.

Their thinking is clearly along the lines of "Hey, why make £10 billion every 4 years when we can make £10 billion every 2 years"

"Sporting glory" went out the window long ago

Having lived in that part of the world - I know the fans are football mad but their perception of the game and its heritage is very different to ours.
They will pick a team - Juve, Barca, Real etc and follow that team intensely - similarly, they will have an International favourite - Brazil, Argentina, Italy etc - as well as being patriotic about their own team. I don't think they are as invested in the Euros as much. Having the WC every 2 years means their own teams are constantly involved. Not having to wait every 4 years (longer if they don't qualify) to play a part.

Personally, I like the format the way that it is,

All about power and money. FIFA want full control of the game globally, get rid of the regional competitions then it reduces the influence of the regional bodies Conmebol, Concacaf, UEFA etc making them subservient.

Stories that FIFA are a supporter of the ESL as well. Denied as per usual but with a caveat Infantino talks to clubs all the time and other similar projects have been more advanced than this one previously.

None of them are in it for the love of the game, they are in it for power, fame and cash.

The European Super League logic.

“Every year in England you have 380 games by the same teams and everyone is very happy with the Premier League so I don’t think the repetitive element would be harming,”

The real reason for looking into it.

"We will put the sporting element as a priority, not the commercial element. You don’t need to be Einstein to know that if you put World Cups every two years you will double the revenues."

Trying to justify it.

"We need to look at some of the countries outside of Europe. In Africa, out of 54 countries only five qualify for the World Cup. If you don’t qualify what are you doing for the next four years? Nothing? "

Another reason to give up on football.

That last paragraph I agree with, that's why I'd end seeding and have a straight knockout tournament up to the last 16, with the tournament being global from the off.

We may see all of the finals places coming from Europe and South America but they'd be there on merit.

If you have 2 year world cup how on earth do you have a qualifying tournament?

It will end up being invitation only with a mix of teams that will generate revenue and not based on sporting qualification.

Ballarks!
Taking the mick.
Money grabbing greedy sponging twits!
Once every 4 years is enough.
All Boro`s World Cups players would be knackered!;)(y)
